Tbh I am done with it, I'll doubtfully pursue it any more than I have. nevermind it's their loss, my invention is about to take off and they would have enjoyed handling some of that money I bet!
I just put it up on the forum to warn others about this so people don't waste time, time is money after all and they have had an hour or so of mine already that I'll never get back!Cheers, Nick Staley, Inventor of the Wheelie Bin Cover Invention.0 -
The T&Cs for the switch are crystal clear. As noh rightly says - neither salary nor credits are a requirement.
But a pre-requirement is that you 'successfully apply for a Halifax X current account'. As the OP didn't complete that step - the T&Cs didn't even come into play.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Thank you for your recent application for a Savings account (error no. 1 it's a current account)
Unfortunately, due to a technical problem, we have been unable to process your application at this centre.
This means that if you would still like to apply for an account with halifax, please visit your local halifax branch and apply for and open the account at the branch. to do this, please call 0845 3 000 000 (error no. 2 I called this number and verified with the person who answered that this is a number for Lloyds TSB and whilst they own Halifax its odd that the letter directs you here *I googled my branch's number at this point*) to make an appointment at a branch and time convenient to you.
I am sorry that I have been unable to help you further and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Your sincerely Wendy Broome, Senior Manager,
Come on Martin :money: get on the blower and sort em out! :rotfl:Cheers, Nick Staley, Inventor of the Wheelie Bin Cover Invention.0 -
The T+Cs for the £100 switching offer are not vague.Salary is not mentioned nor are credits as a condition.
Whatever the (contradictory) Clauses mean, it is not true (as another poster suggests) that the bank could not assert the need to transfer salary, though as I pointed out in my previous post, I think only on a "self-certification" basis. Here are the terms again
http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/switch-to-halifax/#100-switch-terms
I read them the first time0 -
Oh yes they are...:D
I refer you to the phrase "regular payments" which appears in Clauses 1 & 2. In Clause 1, the "regular payments" are payments "from", in Clause 2 the "regular payments" are payments "to". The phrase is explained, including as "salary", in the website preamble.

And you are misreading them again.
Those two conditions do not contradict each other.
Condition 1 says1. To qualify for the £100 switching incentive (the "offer") you must successfully apply for a new Halifax Current Account, Halifax Reward Current Account or Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account and use the Halifax Switching Service/Team to switch your existing current account from another bank. This means transferring all your direct debits and other regular payments from your existing bank to your new Halifax bank account ("your account") with us.
Note that your new Halifax bank account is defined as "your account"
condition 2 says2. We reserve the right to claim back the offer if you do not complete the switch from your existing current account by transferring all your direct debits and other regular payments to your account.
Note the use of "your account"
condition two reads
....... transferring all direct debits and other regular payments to your new Halifax bank account
Nowhere in the T+Cs for the switching offer is a salary payment or other incoming payment mentioned.
As Mikeyorks says a pre condition is that you are accepted for the Reward account first.
The Reward account also does not have a condition that salary is paid into it. It does have a condition that £1000 is paid in monthly but source of that credit is not specified.0 -
Isn't it funny when 2 people get uppity with each other & it's only possible for one of them to be right.
Then comes the moment when the other one realises this :rotfl:Brilliant.
Seem to see it a lot on MSE.:beer:0 -

As you pointed out earlier "So if you say yes and they say no, bearing in mind they hold the keys to the safe, what is your next move?"
In practice that is a possible outcome. The terms and conditions quoted say one thing, the website offer preamble to the terms and conditions, as a matter of fact, mentions "salary" as an example of a "regular payment", though it seems to me that Halifax could only find out if the applicant declared a regular salary payment on the .pdf form mentioned in the website offer preamble. It is reasonable question to what extent (if any) the preamble influences the interpretation of the following terms and conditions. And anyway not to declare a salary may influence the discretionary granting of a credit-scored type of account.
So I think your earlier comment is right. I also think the suggestion just to try applying again is not unreasonable advice.0 -
I applied & was told "Sorry you dont qualify, have a basic account instead (no £100 & no £5 per month). I wonder how many people they have said this to in order to get out of paying the £100?
I want to switch accounts anyway so applied for that one - that was on the 3rd January & each time I call them & ask about my application they completely arent bothered by it & just say it takes 10 days to do this & 7 days to do that etc. They cant even confirm that I've sent back my details. Beginning to lose hope that it will be set up before my wages go in at the end of Jan & may just go somewhere else.0
