bridesmaid to bestfriend, buying my dress and she would like money as a gift

Hi
Just looking for a quick bit of advice/guidance.
My bestfriend is getting married in August and she has asked me to be her bridesmaid. :jShes asked me to buy my own dress which im happy to do, but when asked what she (they) would like present wise I was told money for hunnymoon.
Now I have real issues with giving anyone money - I like giving well thought presents, presents that make the reciepant smile. I did think of getting Champange and chocs for when they open the presents however as they are requesting money I doubt they will have many to open. My friend and her partner have been living together for 18 months or so so they have most things for their house.
Does anyone have any ideas for presents? I really dont know what to spend either.
All ideas welcome.
Thank you.

I think it's a blooming cheek asking for money for a gift, especially in addition to buying your own dress.

I'd say that you buying a dress presumably of her choice for her wedding is gift enough.
Anything else is a bonus
I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
To be honest, I don't think that you buying your own dress is relevant to what you spend/give on a present - you've agreed it's ok, and that's your choice. I see the present as a separate issue.
I don't like giving money as a present either, I'd rather buy people something well thought out to open. But if it's a honeymoon they want, I also don't see the point in wasting money on buying a present that they neither want nor need. I'd go with giving them money if you can afford to, and if you can't afford a great deal, so be it. She's your best friend, she'll understand if you're skint.
If you want to personalise it, do so with a handmade card or something that they will appreciate for the effort that you've put in.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I'm not sure why you bothered asking her if you knew they had stuff for the house and you already had an idea in mind?
Tbh, If you don't want to give money (especially if you are paying for the dress yourself already) then just go with your original idea, it's a nice one.

you are buying your own dress? no gift! she is charging you enough to be in the wedding party!
I really dont understand why brides think that a bridesmaid should pay for a dress they probably hate and wont wear again (and think they look hideous in) just to enhance THIER own wedding day.0 -

I think that - being as you are buying your own dress then a bottle of champagne and chocs is very generous and lovely of you.Snootchie Bootchies!0

Coudl you contact their honeymoon hotel and get a bottle of champagne put in the room for them on arrival? (If the hotel isn;t doing this already of course). They could add a note saying it's from you, and I think that would be absolutely lovely. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I'm not that keen on giving money either. However I think, for my best friend I would give her a lovely card with £50 in it and write something lovely to make her smile.0

How about an album of pictures of the two of you with a matching empty one with a note about your friendship/her new married life ? I'd include a couple of lines on that days lottery with something to say you hope they win the amount you would have loved to be able to give them.
If I asked for money i would be chuffed with any amount but slightly niggled if you 'wasted' your money on a gift I wouldnt make use of.Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais
