Thought previous figures were high, they are the maximum available for lowish income families. For very low income families some of that loan is replaced with a grant. For anyone whose family income is over £60,000 they reduce to:

    Maintenance loans for September 2012:

You live at home £4375 3150

You live away from home and study outside London £55003960

You live away from home and study in London £76755526
I qualify as a "very low income family" even if they halved the limits.
    :)
    So I'd get the grant.

    I've been Money Tipped!
If I used my typical travelling distance for the simplest of things round here (including maying a hairdressing course), then plotted that onto your life ... the area covered would include Bristol, where there's probably lots more opportunities .... and maybe a shop nearby with cheap champers, so you can have your cake and eat it (especially if there's a cake shop nearby too).

It would also cover my last hairdresser who is very good, but expensive. There are good hairdressers in bath which really is very close to me, probably easier on the train from here, but not cheap either...i should start looking there, but then....could not meet dh for lunch :D. my mother now goes to where lydia lives for a hairdresser....

I have also considered seeing if the ones at the nearby centre parks spa are any good.....i would have no idea if they would be or not.

Had to go to the dentist as he's been a bit worried about my gums .... now, he's lovely and excellent and honest. After looking/cleaning he said he's still a bit worried about them and that I need to get it sorted out in order to keep my teeth into my dotage. And then he asked me what toothbrush I use, so I said "I'm a skinflint, it's just any old cheap toothbrush, often 2 to a pack on offer" and then he said "I'm nothing to do with them, but I've got a XXX toothbrush and I can thoroughly recommend them".

It's electric ... so I just googled it. Now, obviously I staggered at the price tag of £70-80 at the cheapest places.... and then thought !!!!!!???? when I read that it has a screen.

A screen? It's a !!!!!!!' toothbrush.... what manner of lunacy is going on??
And a wireless smartguide that will ..... tell me how well I've brushed my teeth!!

    Ferkin' ell!!

Like solicitors, which still Do not need a degree, or a levels i think, to do ilex route.......and the legal courses not so relevant to the more routinely big bucks law, where ilex is met with ???? I guess.

Edit, tbh, i agree, to get ahead a degree is required, but in practise....it didn't used to be and only does now because of perception really. A lot of it is not rocket science, but does carry a heavy weight of responsibilty and pressure, the ability to handle which probably is improved by a good degree in a 'good' univeristy......though, dh did his law conversion at uwe, and found it heavier going than oxford......

yeah, you can still get into accountancy doing AAT and then going on to do ACA/ACCA off the back of it, but the reality is that most of the AAT trainees now have degrees as well, and the majority of people who do well out of it are degree holding ACA/ACCAs. allegedly the average salary for an ACA is now over £100,000. i would have thought the average salary for someone who just did AAT with A levels and didn't go on to do ACA/ACCA is under £30k.

i should think that in excess of 95% of ACA/ACCA trainees have degrees, so whilst you can technically get into the profession without a degree, your chances of doing so are pretty slim.

I expect this is the the same with solicitors, and in particular you're unlikely to get a training contract at a city law firm without a 1st class degree from a very highly ranked university (unless your dad works there of course - nepotism is still pretty handy).

My sibling did law, but not at a University - but it was a degree (full hat/cloak thing). Then onto Solicitors Finals (one year), then articles, then submission of articles to become Supreme Court thingy.

At the time it sounded more like "some local technical college, but in a different town". Now it's morphed into a Uni. (Ruskin).

Sibling had posher friends than me and had been to their houses and knew about things called degrees... even though the school practically FORBADE the staying on post-16, sibling's pretty 4rsey and INSISTED on staying on to do A levels. Sibling had seen the grass on the other side and it was mighty green.

Back then, there was a lot of being "educated to where they thought your class was" - and so it'd have only been the posher kids that were "allowed" to stay and do A levels at the local school. Most were simply steered into "jobs". Boys did army or a mechanics apprenticeship; girls did typing, nursing or worked in a factory.

I should get one .... DM review of it in January says rrp £179. I've seen reports around t'Internet where people have got it "half price, £40", so the street price is closer to £80.

I should set our resident super shopper the challenge of finding it for me at £40 inc P&P. There's lovely.

I do like the idea of knowing I just have to brush until a face appears.... I know I've done it right then!

And - it'll save me from looking like all these toothless old people I see everywhere..... and looking like a witch.

Normally the electric brushes are on sale at 50% off. You find out why 3 months. Later when you need a new brush head and realise what a bargain manual brushes are...still a lot cheaper to go eclectic if it said es even 1 filing let alone the price of crowns, bridges etc.
