Just wondering.....
Do they remove all previous paint before re-painting?0 -
I used to study at a university that taught crop-spraying and my flatmate was studying on that course.
He told me it was one of the cheapest ways to get a pilots licence, because the course had lots of flying lessons thrown in, plus the students paid for as many extra as they could fit in.
When OH lived in the US the radio used to warn us if they were spraying Alar ior whatever it was at the time and we had to stay indoors, not hang our washing out or pick fruit for a day.
Haven't a clue how they handle it here in the UK but they must have to spray loads of areas.
In Scotland if you take ten steps outside a city the insects'll eat you alive!
Spraying is generally done by tractor preferably on a still and dry day here.supposedly. That these apications are as they are makes a mockery of organic. The organic farm that surrounds us is surrounded again by a heavily inorganic farm.....
This wasn 't crop spraying through......just a daily attempt at mosquito control.0 -
My daughter brought home the most amazing boy yesterday. Well over 6 feet tall, handsome, intelligent, well educated, good manners, religious (like she is), and very eligible. By far the best looking boy that she had ever brought home to see us, but sadly as gay as a maypole
If your first criteria is height, my boys should do OK.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Which in itself makes me a risk, because i think my skin is so because of the years i spent running aound hot places whering nothing more than a pair of red bikini bottoms when i was little. My parents didn't really know much about suncream. One place we lived that i remember we had a plane fly over deopping insecticide for mosquitos. The adults used to put their hands over their drinks, and i used to duck under the water in the pool or sea. When i think aout the deet or whatever we must have all taken in i can get very worried.
I rarely get burned either, but mostly because I avoid the sun! This is probably the worst I've ever been burnt and it's really not that bad, I have a couple of very small blisters on my shoulder otherwise it's just all a bit red.
I gave up trying to avoid carcinogens at university, when my lecturer (the relatively famous Steve Jones, who was a pretty rubbish lecturer really) told is that lettuce, pepper and coffee all contain carcinogenic compounds.0 -

I once attended a conference which had Steve jones and Rchard Dawkins speaking and I can tell you I soon knew who I'd rather have as a lecturer after that! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Not an impressed cookie today....James decided he would be a typical teenager and not come home until 3.30 this morning.
So there was me, expecting him home at his usual time on a Friday after babysitting at around 10 and by 3am, considering ringing the hospitals as his mobile was off, he had left his babysitting place 5 hours earlier and there was no sign of him.
He couldn't see what all the fuss was about because again, like a normal teenager, he thinks he is invincible and was bemused about my concern for his safety. In the end it turns out that on his way home, he met up with a friend (female) and spent hours talking on her garden wall (he has a habit of doing that...must have learnt from his mother!) and when he went to text me to say he was delayed, realised his phone had run out of charge.
Not easy reading the riot act at 3.30 am with the other two in bed but he got it with both barrels when he did eventually reach home.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
