Absolutely not the ugly sister over here.

I found it funny when I last went back to the UK that people were a bit disappointed: "You haven't got much of a tan". !!!!!!, I slap #30 all over me and the Generalissimos, stick on hats and sunnies just to mow the lawn. Why on earth would I want to get a tan?

Getting sunburn in Australia is like smoking: a dumb way of accelerating your route to the grave. A guest of mine in Aus is still held in contempt by the family for refusing offers of sunscreen whilst out on a yacht because "I tan red". That was over 3 years ago now and is used as an in joke for, "Do you want some sun cream or do you want to get a red tan like ......."?

I read some disturbing stats once about the skin cancer rates of different ethnic groups. White aussies and South Africans were either the top or close to the top.

People of Irish origin were up there as well, regardless of latitude.

Mentioned a while back about about a mate who was from Africa and had albinism which over there meant skin cancer was inevitable by around the age of 20.

I'm useless in the sun; never go anywhere sunny but when I do I'm red in minutes.

The day before I started in my current job that took a year of hard yakka to get I decided that the thing to do was to go on a really big cycle ride to get the adrenaline used in a positive way and to tire me out so I slept well.

I slapped on the #30 (you can't claim #50 here AFAIUI because it's not provable), helmet on with a peak, good sunglasses and rode 200km on a 38C day. Only trouble was I forgot to do my face. Both times.

I look like a beetroot on a stick in my work photo.

I have a somewhat spurious claim to fame today. I have sat in the same seat on the plane as the Olympic flame. Though sadly, not at the same time.

Still BA2012 or had it changed its name? If you could get the boarding pass that would be worth something!

I am very lucky with the sun. I am very, very pale...almost all make up is too dark for me ...but i rarely burn and can tan very dark.....when i came to uk at my school people were amazed to discove both my parents were white.....it was assumed otherwise.

Which in itself makes me a risk, because i think my skin is so because of the years i spent running aound hot places whering nothing more than a pair of red bikini bottoms when i was little. My parents didn't really know much about suncream. One place we lived that i remember we had a plane fly over deopping insecticide for mosquitos. The adults used to put their hands over their drinks, and i used to duck under the water in the pool or sea. When i think aout the deet or whatever we must have all taken in i can get very worried.

Watching Ladette to Lady on IV2 (freeview 6). When did finishing schools all close down? Or do they still exist? And, if they do exist - have any NPs ever met anybody that ever went to one?

I know someone that teaches a secretarial course in one, something like "how to type without breaking your nails".

I cannot sit in the sun, ok doing gardening or walking but if it is really hot I stay indoors.
My last blood test showed that I am lacking in vitamin D, Dr gave me chalky horse tablets to take , and told me to get the sun( when it comes out) for 30mins each day on my arms and face.

What I don't understand is I eat most of the foods that contain this vitamin, so it seems I can't win.

The plane itself is now called Firefly. I'm not sure if it will keep that name. The flight number was for the special flight to Cornwall, not on the normal route map so I don't think it will be kept. I'm told that the plane will probably stay in that paint job across the Summer before reverting to its original scheme.

Unfortunately I flew on it last year to Barcelona - nothing quite so exotic! It's just that they named the seat that the flame was in and DH said "ooh, that was your seat".

We know which plane it was due to the intimate knowledge he has of plane numbers - not due to a hobby but because of his job.

Incidentally, in terms of the paint jobs, this is a BA tradition. Remember the gold nose cone on the plane that flew the Olympians back from Beijing? That too has now been painted over. Unfortunately planes need a lot of painting.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Thailand is lovely, however the sun is too hot and I now resemble a boiled lobster so now I am trapped indoors bored!

People will use any excuse to keep in touch with the NPT ;)

    This is the plan....

Slap on the fake tan the night before flying

Slap on factor 30 and lay on a lounger 15-30 mins each side depending

Erect the parasol, lay in the shade like an adonis, shades on, listening to music, sipping fluids, watching the "world" go by :cool2:

Apply more fake tan as required and on the day before flying home

I used to study at a university that taught crop-spraying and my flatmate was studying on that course.

He told me it was one of the cheapest ways to get a pilots licence, because the course had lots of flying lessons thrown in, plus the students paid for as many extra as they could fit in.

When OH lived in the US the radio used to warn us if they were spraying Alar ior whatever it was at the time and we had to stay indoors, not hang our washing out or pick fruit for a day.

Haven't a clue how they handle it here in the UK but they must have to spray loads of areas.

In Scotland if you take ten steps outside a city the insects'll eat you alive!

Just embrace the pale. Pale is beautiful. In my early thirties i am already getting freckly arms :(. So try to stay out of the sun. I have seen my future on my mothers skin...and its liver spots and lots of peels. Its not good.
