Pastures, I think you are much more moneysaving than I am. But I do try.

Don't let that get you down, MoS. Pastures is more moneysaving than almost everybody. :)

I scrape excess food into the bin and put dishes straight in dishwasher. Never steep or rinse first. If the dishwasher fails to clean them properly then they may be soaked until time for the next run, where the dishwasher gets them again. Everything goes in, plastics on the top shelf, saucepans wherever I find room.

Me too! :D Well, actually I sometimes soak the frying pan - but only if it's bad enough that I would have soaked it before washing up by hand too.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I think you are shopping a different segment of the market from me, I expect things to last a year and 2 years is a bonus...

I'm only quoting form other threads written by retailers/engineers on this (plus other) websites.

I'm a big fan of Which? magazine and often thought that if they (the Consumer Association) were in financial danger they should be made a branch of the government to keep them going. They blamed a blip in sales on the improvement of products longevity/reliability. In fact there was a recent (to me, depressing) documentary about the gradual decline in repair shops.

I used to buy the cheapest of everything but have gradually learned the hard way that they're rubbish, and you have to think a few years ahead. I have to buy a bit above the cheapest!

A lesson I've learned as well.

Although frustratingly, getting that level just right seems to vary quite widely with different categories of stuff.

We just bought a new microwave after the old one packed in. The old one cost £30 about 5 years ago. The new one cost £40 and will probably last another 4-5 years. The £150 ones might last 15-20 years...... But I'm happy enough with the cheap ones.

Whereas I recently got a half decent AV amp and speaker package after having cheap surround systems for a decade. Well worth it IMO. Nowhere near true Audiophile levels (or costs, thankfully), but a very noticable increase in quality and movie/music enjoyment compared to the few hundred quid entry level gear.

Likewise a good mid-market brand name TV is worth it over the cheapest one in Tesco.

Mattresses.... Bought what I considered to be a reasonably expensive one a year or so ago, and it's already getting uncomfortable. May well have to spend a fair bit more than I thought to get that balance right, which is bl00dy annoying, given I spent a lot more than the cheapest options in the hope of getting it right the first time.

I'll spend the money for Bosch washers and dryers, as they're so quiet and reliable.

Not nearly as fussed about things like fridges, freezers, dishwashers though. Tend to go for the cheapest brand name I recognise in the right size with those.

For me it's the dishwasher. I have one in my kitchen and it is just not used.

We've never had one. I need an excuse to just stand and stare, like in the poem. If I do that outside, I see something I should be doing....:o

Your right. Always best to deal with the manufacturer.

Not when it's John Lewis. :D

Humax PVR, totally screwed after a few weeks. Humax offered a refurb. John Lewis said that was poo and sent another new one. Not only that, but they got it here long before the Humax machine arrived, only to be sent away again.

    Happy consumer here. :)

I don't know when I started drinking, but it probably wasn't much at home, except at Christmas. Alcoholism runs in my Mum's side.

I remember buying scrumpy at 14 'around the back' of the local pub, taking my own bottle along and getting it filled for 9d a pint. ;)

However, long before that - probably Year 7 - I remember drinking cocktails of stuff from my mate's Dad's liqueur cabinet on the school bus. I recall he became tipsy by registration one morning and we had real difficulty in keeping him out of bother....:rotfl:

I was a serious drinker by the time I was 18, to the degree of 10 pints and a couple of whiskies on New Year etc. Never developed a real taste for it though, so stopped when my social life & boozing hit my work and waistline after 2 years at uni.

    Hardly drink at all now.:A

I thought it was all to do with the politics and very little to do with the music.

    My predictions:

Greece awards Cyprus 10 points and Turkey nil points.
Cyprus awards Greece 10 points and Turkey nil points.

All the former Yugoslavian countries that are friends with their neighbours, awards said neighbours 10 points.

I went mad with alcohol when I was younger, at one point, I was waking up to a bottle of Martini (I know, very girly)...I was 16, thankfully fate played its hand and I moved back home where waking up to a bottle was not possible and it stopped it in its tracks but not before one famous Christmas Eve where me and my friend went along the optics with a pint glass, goodness that was a very rough Christmas day and it took me until New years eve to recover...only to repeat the venture.

Once I hit 18 and moved out from home for good, I enjoyed going to the pub to see bands and with that came copious amounts of alcohol. I was known for being able to drink any bloke under the table, especially when it came to snakebite, I could outdrink anyone with that.

Again fate played its hand and we moved away from our local pub to an area where I didn't much like the ambience in the pub and as it was too far to go to our old local, I just didn't bother. I still had drink at home and on holiday we enjoyed copious amounts but then I got my driving license...and I pretty much stopped drinking.

I now drink very very rarely, not because I am being a goody goody but because I never know when I will be needed to drive up to the hospital, so it is less stressful for me to just not drink.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

It's raining... and the Olympic torch will be here shortly... if it's dry and I remember, I might walk out and see it (100 yards); if it's raining, then I won't bother.

I know my departed old would have LOVED watching it go past the house, so proud about that and telling everybody .... the old was into the Olympics.

    Me.... can't be 4rsed.
