As we are talking about languages, i wonder what nice poeple would like to speak but they don't or what they think would make a good second (third or fourth or whatever) language.

As I would be very interested in learning another language and I haven't got even a nanojoule of mental energy to spare for it I'd probably best enjoy learning this language here which allegedly only takes hours to learn.
Based on Latin and Greek apparently.;)

Eurgh... Have just had a look at the long range forecast for the next two weeks. Not one day of sunshine, not one day with a forecast of 17 degrees (mostly lower 14-16 as a high). Bad news: lots more heavy rain, good news, not too much frost after the next few days. Sigh....
I just checked the next 10 days. Tomorrow's hot/sunny. In the next 10 days there are 2 where there is a "chance of rain"... but certainly no actual rain forecast.

Temperatures are all showing to be 12-13 degrees.

What do you mean Week 17? Is there more than one week?
    Blimey, if so.

You've got countries listed that I didn't even know existed!

Ok - just started researching these, the final 2 are both amazing trees but grow too big :( The Stawberry tree also looks fun especially with multiple stems but doesn't sound like it will like our heavy clay soil. I am struggling to find pictures of the quince and the malus you suggest although the quince sounds like it might be a bit delicate?[/

Portuguese Quince,....sold as uk hardy, i would only try in south east. As i said, i am getting a quince but not that one...i will get meech's prolific i think.

All i can say re size and trees is i have seen big trees people write off as front garden trees successfully. Might take mainatinance people don' want to put in though. Eg, i fell in love with indian bean trees in a front handkercheif in I think, Trevor sq. - in any case, one of those squares round hyde park that are hovering above indergroung concrete hidden city, very sensitive i would have though, and i presume it was both planted ina root guard...not so hard, and obviously had the normal treatment for this in a city garden....heavy annual crown prune. You loose the flowers but get something unsurpassably delectably green and small, inlike these things in majestic whole. Pruning is not a big deal when it comes to 'lob it all off' techniche! the tulip tree i love so much is a medium tree in front garden of georgian? Cottage ina village near here. Its not a maintance free choice, of vourse, to keeo a big tree small. Guess its a big bonsai!

I am not advicating risking your foundations though.

    Re burnt sugar tree,

i have been allowed by the surveyor to have one here, seven metres from the house....so cannot be too bad..And the liquid ambers

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=safari&tbo=d&biw=1024&bih=672&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=liquid+amber+tree&oq=liquid+amber+tree&aq=f&aqi=g3g-S7&aql=&gs_l=img.3..0l3j0i24l7.31220.39048.0.41340.19.19.0.0.0.2.738.2636.1j8j2j0j1j0j1.13.0...0.0.caFWag_4928

But..there is the real clue, we found insuring any tree aphad to be more than seven metres from the house.....will yours be? If not, fruit tree probably is best.
Here is the prarie fire crab apple

Looking at weather forecast might leave me depressed. So i won't. Am making posh jelly and icecream for lunch at the weekend, and something with strawberries probably. If its cold and i should have made a warm pud i will give peole hot water bottles. They can lump it. I am even considering not doing a starter......but will probably feel wracke by hostess guilt so might well cobble something together.

Saw a different jelly recipe on Hairy Bikers earlier. It was cider jelly, with blackberries.

It was presented as a bit of a dinner party/posh thing, served in big wine goblets. Cider Jelly With Blackberries.

It was: water/sugar heated/boiled, remove from heat, gently slide the cider in down the side of the pan (so you don't lose the bubbles) put blackberries in for 15 minutes (taste goes into the water/sugar a bit but the blackberries don't cook. Remove blackberries, add softened gelatin and stir. Chill the glasses (he'd had them in the freezer for an hour). Half fill glasses, put them in the freezer for an hour. Remove glasses from freezer and slowly/carefully fold the jelly around with a fork so it looks crystallised. Pop blackberries onto top. Top up glasses with the remainder of the water/sugar/cider mix. Bung in fridge. Make them the day before.

You can probably find a video of it online... the bbc website doesn't have a photo of it... looked nice though.
