But I'd heard of Pealy kings and queens maybe from seeing Mary Poppins as a kid. And no I've never heard anyone else speak like !!!!!! van Dyke in that film;)
That's because nobody does speak like !!!!!! van Dyke in that film IRL. That accent is called "American trying to do cockney and getting it badly wrong".Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Thinking of getting OH a man city footie shirt; they've just produced them with "champions 12" on the back. Do you think that would be appreciated or look naff?
he did go to the match
If he's a ManC fan and went to the match I'd just buy it.
And even if he's not the footy team shirt wearing type of guy, it's always nice to have memorabilia about such an event...for a fan.0 -

The only time he wears a footie shirt is if he is playing football himself or if he is watching a match. He already has a 2 year old man city shirt.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Yes, it's a spectacular fail at a cockney accent, but somehow it adds charm of its own to the film. Once you tune in to him, it's just how DvD speaks in the film, and who couldn't enjoy him hamming it all up at breakneck speed? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I'm techically a Cockney, having been born within hearing distance of Bow Bells. :A
In fack oi be a rare Zummerzet-Deb'n Cockney, and there bain't too many o'they!0 -

Plus, they tend to block the light out. but i do like curtains that are over long and puddle on the floor. Even though the bottoms risk getting grubby. Its just the fabrics i love happen to be in the main fairly pricey. One of the main differences in 'expensive' curtains is that they tend to hang better being well weighted and interlined, but while i have never weighted anything i have sewn blinds and curtains with interlining in. Its beena long time, but i don't see why I would not be able to do it now. It mioght take longer as i get tired, and i will have to make sure my measurements are perfect, i used to check everything all the way through, but won't be able to manage that nowadays, but if i know my measurements are right i should be able to sew straight lines.
Headers are a separate issue. I have only ever donw plain ones, but i don't know if i should do these fancy pinch pleated ones. Of the 'fancy' types i think these are the nicest. Goblet ones look too......posed, and the inverted box pleats too sleek. So it will either be bog standard gathered or triple pinch pleats here i think.
In our sitting room we have lovely chinese design interlined curtains that puddle. They have a plain top to them and triple pinch pleats. We hold them back with brass shepherd's crook type things. I bought them in an auction years ago and they were such a bargain - match a vase I have as if meant to go together - and look really at odds with our sofa.
I like sewing curtains, I feel all arty crafty when interlining and sewing by hand, but usually get bored and careless when putting heading tape on. I made the curtains for our kitchen sitting room - made one long curtain and hung it up, then took 12 months before I made and hung its mate.0 -
Eurgh... Have just had a look at the long range forecast for the next two weeks. Not one day of sunshine, not one day with a forecast of 17 degrees (mostly lower 14-16 as a high). Bad news: lots more heavy rain, good news, not too much frost after the next few days. Sigh....Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I know it has been miserable for a while but I am still in the 'wet weather better than standpipes' camp.
DW says hail covered ground earlier, did you have that in your bit of Herts?vivatifosi wrote: »Eurgh... Have just had a look at the long range forecast for the next two weeks. Yes, but that could have been because I spent quite a few hours today in your part of Herts;). I'm just glad I live at the top of a hill and that the ark building is going to plan. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Ok - just started researching these, the final 2 are both amazing trees but grow too big
The Stawberry tree also looks fun especially with multiple stems but doesn't sound like it will like our heavy clay soil. I am struggling to find pictures of the quince and the malus you suggest although the quince sounds like it might be a bit delicate?
lostinrates wrote: »Hmm...well....
Malus, i am going for harry baker, like a said. If the fruit were less important to me (and frankly i struggle to see the point of ornamental only fruit trees) i would go for prarie fire. If only the fruit were important it would be the traditional john downie.
I think your wife mit like a tulip tree, as well as having pretty shaped green leaves, they Have beautiful tropical looking flowers. Possibly my favorite ornamental tree atm.
Strawberry tree. Pretty, and while the fruit is meant to be disgusting, it is edible. I want one of those, and a june berry tree too.
If i live in the south east i would also be looking at a portuguese quince. Mainly for the fruit, but they beautiful trees. I daren't risk one of these most tender quinces here, and think i will get a meech's prolific. You could always let the kids pick the quinces at sell them at the gate for pocket money!
Two more...a burnt sugar tree....looks beautiful and smalls gorgeous in late summer and autumn, also called the candy floss tree.
And a liquid amber. Probably best autumn colour going and pretty leaves when in leaf.I think....0
