I learned last night that dh had never heard of pearly kings and queens, whichresulted in a lot of google imaging, wikipaedia-ing and several promises i had not made this up and got pastures new to make false images and wiki pages!

    I had to google too!

This morning, neighbour's cat kills squirrel in my garden. Sigh.

Repotted leggy courgettes and need to garden tomorrow.

    Advice time.

Tell them. It's a small thing but sometimes people that have Bad Things happening in their lives need some small things to give them something else to focus on.

Stone the crows and no mistake.

A Pearly King used to drink every Sunday afternoon in the pub at the north end of Waterloo Bridge.

On the bright side, I'm out on duty with a police special tomorrow evening (arranged by my wonderful BIL) in preparation for applying to be a police volunteer.

Are you doing that with a longer term goal of becoming a police officer?

I'm sure I've ended up trying to explain the existence of pearly kings and queens on a couple of occasions - its really not that easy is it?!

Been there.... about 6 years ago there was a "freebie day" and my mate and I went (she's an avid member etc). So, we rocked up to the car parking area, which was a small grassy orchard type of place. My mate's one of those avid picnic people.... who open the boot and out comes the lot: table, chairs, table cloth, proper plates, cutlery, 3 stonking great bags of food/drink (even though there are two of you and not 12).

We had a walk round the house and then back to the car for the al fresco picnic scoffathon.

Didn't do any walking though :) Just scoffing.

I think the Quay there was used in the TV programme Edwardian Farm - which was somewhere around those parts, I think.

Just map/google'd it, it's 100 mile round trip ... to go for a walk. Or, I can sit here and save £15 in fuel and save the planet,..... then spend that £15 on foody treats for the rest of the week.... and that's why fat people don't walk.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! They're part of our Mad Englishman Culture!!

LOL/made it up. Did you YouTube it? He'd see videos then.

Pearly King, Pearly Queen, Pie & Eels and the sound of the Bow Bells.... and old time Cockney entertainers on a 1900 stage. BRITISH STUFF!! Or - PN's view of London and Londoners.

"Weekend" section of today's (Saturday) Times has an interesting article about Asperger's career women.
I'd have had a career if it hadn't kept getting cut off at every point... I was just very unlucky in that every company closed down, downsized, got taken over or moved. And if you're forever starting over and over and over again. And again. Then starting over again.... you wake up one day old and looking like your CV is a list of every small company within 100 miles.

A career isn't something you can plan, it's a bit like paintballing really .... some people keep getting splattered.

But .... they're just so well known and they're in London! And a lot of those Old Time Music Hall songs were about, or by, them!!
