  • Thanks for the welcome everyone. It's nice to hear the descriptions.

As well as having two boys (one student, one not), we have a tiny Yorkshire terrier aged 15 and we look after my son's dog. She is a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, nine months old and very bouncy. A bit too boisterous for the yorkie sometimes.

Wheezy, I'm sure Betty (spaniel) would like your Westie as she seems to have a soft spot for them.

Silvercar, I think I would be tempted to tell the parents because if you don't I think they might be upset. That's how I would think of it anyway.

Pastures new, we get a season ticket to the Bolton Octagon as we really like watching plays. I have never seen a bad one there. One of the best ones was called 'Demolition Man' which is nothing to do with the film and everything to do with Fred Dibnah.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I will possibly go to Bury market
tomorrow which is famous for its black puddings. I'm sorry to say I can't
    stand them.

    Hello Silvercar

Your consideration and care for your parents is commendable. You know them best and whatever you decide will be right.

The following is what I used to do and what my sister would do when my Mum was alive.

Me - tell my Mum what I was having sorted out and speak to her before and after procedures/events (I have had a few) .

My sister - say nothing at all dodging any opportunity for mum to find out.

Same mum but different approaches to managing communications with her. It reflects more about our own preferences really than our perceptions of her frailty/strength on which we both agreed.

'Astronomical records were key to the Mayan calendar, which has gotten some attention recently because of doomsday warnings that it predicts the end of the world this December.'

The Telegraph seems to have forgotten which side of the Atlantic it's on, but why would anyone stash away food & confused-smiley-013.gifsupplies if the world was going to end in a cataclysmic event?

The oddballs are imagining a scenario of social breakdown & chaos, rather than total destruction. However, the chances of surviving undiscovered in the places where the oddballs generally hang out, seem pretty slim to me. Remember the all-knowing 'Hairy Arrised Bikers' who will roam the earth in post-apocalypse times. Tracking down a B grade nuclear bunker will be nothing to them! ;)

I'm going with the strategy of keeping in with a few guys who own guns, land and edible creatures. I have the polytunnel and they'll need salads. :D

My sister, who has a totally different personality to me, reckons there is no way I can tell them at the moment. She reckons they can't deal with anything else after what has happened these last two days and would go completely to pieces.

Good luck silver, I don't know what to suggest but just wanted to send my best wishes for a swift recovery for you as well as your finding the right solution to your problem.

It's not a nice dilemma when you've got your opp to deal with too.

Hope it all goes well :)

    I'll second that. :)

Without knowing the people concerned, I'd hesitate before offering any advice. My folks were ostriches, so I used to break any sensitive news gently, revealing more over time or just 'forgetting' bits. However, I think they knew they were like that, so to an extent, they colluded!

...everything to do with Fred Dibnah.
I like to watch him on the telly - he's such a happy little man.
It's a lovely set of footage for his family to watch now he's gone.... a real heirloom piece that everybody can enjoy forever.
