She hid everything from me and my sister, we still don't know what really happened, or what was wrong, and I have found it really problematic ever since. It was just one part of a long line of things which have resulted in me being very distant from the rest of my family, and had left me looking at other families and wondering why they seem so much tighter knit than us and wishing it was different for me. I wish she would have just sat down and told me what was going on.

I am just reflecting on something your post reminded me of which is pretty much irrelevant to what you are dealing with right now.My mum hid her health problems. I'm sure it was because she was desperate to protect us, her children, which cannot be unusual and is more to do with being tight knit than not.
Trust that your mum loved you so much that she did everything possible not to hurt you. Your difficulties with the rest of your family may be about more than this.
Well, he does say that it was part of a long line of things. I do understand that sometimes parents don't tell their children everything - and sometimes children don't tell their parents everything. It can be the right thing to do, and it can be the loving thing to do, but I don't think it's usually the close thing to do. Whatever is hidden is excluded from the relationship, and the more things that are hidden the more unreal and superficial and unsatisfying the relationship becomes. treliac, if you had a wonderful close relationship with your mum in which most things were not hidden, then for her to hide her health problems wouldn't do any damage, but if chewy's family were hiding all manner of stuff, then hiding health problems would be yet one more disconnect.
chewy, most of us can't fix our families of origin, but if we articulate what was problematic about them and wrestle with the effects that they've had on us, then eventually we can learn to live our own adult lives differently, which can be satisfying in its own way. I hope you succeed.Brallaqueen wrote: »On the bright side, I'm out on duty with a police special tomorrow evening (arranged by my wonderful BIL) in preparation for applying to be a police volunteer.
Hope it goes well.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
You know what the Gaurdian thinks of Hertfordshire people when it suggests a 1.8 mile walk will take you 1 hr 40 minutes!
So Cornish people get to do it at a "gentle stroll" with loads to do and see .... up and down hills .... in the same/less time for a 50% longer walk
I guess Herts calf muscles are used to walking on flat marble floors in shopping centres, wearing high heels.0 -
Wonderful way to wake up....
"Mum, the toilet is FLOODING" (yes the last bit was shouted, well more like screamed in panic)
Next wonderful greeting to the morning....some begger has deleted our working thread on my site, meaning I don't have a scoobie what anyone is doing!
Deep joy....We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Or maybe they just did something bizarre with the permissions and it's still there.0 -
Nope, it was deleted...whether through spite or drunkeness, it was deleted according to our security log.

PN You use a dongle? What exactly do you use as I have a friend who struggles to connect where ever they are, with their dongle.
Does it cost a lot? I thought dongles may cost a lot to run but you seem to be happy with your dongle but not so happy with the price of a pasty.
Nice reply Lydia. If you talk like how you post then I can see why erm... (without saying too much) someone liked to listen so much.
Just make sure who ever is a nice person
silvercar. Can't believe you don't know the P king n Queen
I remember seeing them on the underground when I was around 5. I thought they were almost as famous as the real royalty
PN. If your 21 and hot, you may well stop getting a load of dirty PM's by certain people to be replaced by a load of dirty PM's by other people :rotfl:0 -
It is easy to spend an hour and a half at Ashridge and that is just by going for a 5 minute walk into the woods and spending 85 minutes finding your way back to the car-park. The best place for tea afterwards is my cousins who happen to live right there but bring your own biscuits as they are a bit random when it comes to food...
I was thinking of heading that way today because I want to drop in on Majestic Trees - my parents have offered me a tree for the front garden and I need to chose one. hopefully quite large to stop it getting vandalised and so it can start shading the cars (its main purpose) straight away.
Does anyone thing Malus profusion (lemoinei) might be a good choice.vivatifosi wrote: »A lovely walk or two in some of my favourite places that Herts NPs and other relatively local people might enjoy:

It would have been nice if the Grauniad had spelt Ashridge correctly, but then I guess it wouldn't be the Grauniad if it had...
They have a few walks in the Guardian this weekend if people are interested, not just in the Herts area.
ETA, oooh, here's one for Pastures:

I love crab apples michaels. I am getting harry baker though. Tbh, i think for a lone front garden tree you could get something more unusual and rewarding, but mentioned things i would look at before so i guess they don't appeal!0
