The distinction in this show was supposed to be all about the voice or it would have just been another talent show. That was it's edge.

Which was great when they were turned the other way. That was edgy. But now it's just another talent show. DH has stopped watching it. There's a couple of acts I like so will probably keep watching for now.

At least Simon Cowell isn't in it.

But it is just another talent show? Irony doesn't work on the internet so my 'you surprise me' won't work.

The packaging might have made a peak in viewing, like the packaging of artistes makes sales, but ultimately, performance, even great performance can have little do do with actual voice now. Auto tune is the most basic of corrections, and performance is far more than voice. I spent YEARS training my voice, years, and when i got ill and grew these stupid thyrod thing that changes things a bit more ech year, its no great loss to any one, even meM Because a voice is nothing without an outlet, and a performance. Even if ypu cannot see the act, how others react to it is somehow influential.

I adore vocal talent, but when people say look at adele, i think, yes look at her. She is plump, certainly, but she is not frwakish, in a way frankly soeone like mama cass really was. If adele is as ugly as we let people through with talent, as she appears to be, it is our great loss.

Eg, on this thread, the only thing i know about the group is how they look, their sound is not what was described!

Leona Lewis on x-factor has an outstanding voice - such a shame that Mr Cowell Mariah Careyised her.
    I think....

:D Ok I'll withdraw Hendrix and raise you Bon scott

Fine, but in 1972 he was still playing in support bands....:p He didn't replace the bloke who shares my name until 1974.

It's OK though, because I've just racked my brains and I can't remember much about 1972 at all.

Perhaps it was a quiet year, or maybe I was just having a good time. I remember the ones either side of it. :)

May be we need an old farts sub board for those born in the 70s and before as there is nothing like mixing with younger people to really make you feel old so it is best avoided.

We do, but I don't go there, as it's so depressing. (Over 50s or something like that.) All they seem to talk about......

.....Oh, hang on, some of you have talked about that on here!!!:(

Come to think of it, so have I. :o

He has a very nice voice. She sounds like she's strangling one of those cats that viva has deduced that she owns.

The woman they were up against in the 'battle' I thought had an outstanding voice.

I haven't watched it this weekend, feel left out now!
