It is bitterly cold here, I've had to turn the heating up. With the wind it was January cold earlier. Brrrrr....

Glad you're not moving boxes today, I had visions of the bottom falling out in the soggy mess. Are you near a supermarket or corner shop so you can get a few staple foods in?
I'm moving out .... not buying food in. Trying to minimise what I'll have to box up and take with me tomorrow, when I do the final run.... right after all the cleaning I have to do. I did toy with the idea of moving out today, so I could return tomorrow to do the cleaning... but the weather's definitely put a stop to that idea.

Can't clean until the place is empty .... as there's not enough space to clean until it's empty - and it'd get mucky again between now and then. Also, vacuum is still in the car..... I think I hate the "clean everything top to bottom once the place is empty" stage of every move too. Having packed a car I just want to get off as there's still all the driving/unpacking to do.... so having to clean then is a pain in the butt. Luckily I'm not a mucky pup in the first instance, but it does all still need doing even if it looks/is clean.

There is truely excellent american food, and british food. I have had miserably awful food in france and italy too.

I am not a fan of recipes that start 'take a packet of....' but sometimes they are good.

My particular giggle with us food is jello salads. I like some of them, but others just make me laugh. Edit: beetroot from a pack, rinsed and chopped chunkily put through a blackcurrent jelly when cool but not set is a quick and easy way to sample this delight if its not familiar to you.

Got fond of a food in the US called scrapple ( had relatives in Philadelphia). Best not read the description in too much detail, and bear in mind that being Scottish I've eaten haggis so I wouldn't balk at this :D.

In New Orleans I tried a local snack called a Po'boy sandwich
which was basically a french stick stuffed with fried oysters or deep-fired any meat you could think of. Nope I didn't see any deep-fried mars bar versions there either.:D

I used to love Heniz Curry Chicken Toast Toppers... they've not done that flavour for donkeys years. I could probably make it myself, it's only chicken in a curried white sauce, spread over toast and bunged under a grill. Thing is, these days, you don't seem to get so many grills ... unless I just don't know how to use modern cookers.

I think we're going to have a powercut at some point this afternoon. The lights have had a BIG flicker a couple of times in the past hour or so.

GDB, silvercar and any other NPs with kids going to uni this year. Any idea when the student finance forms need to be filled in and submitted?

Do parents need to fill in part of the form?
DD seems to have no idea (her school's usually good at this type of thing).

Stumbled across a reminder at work that the forms need to be submitted but can't find any other source of information about deadlines and who does what

Do we need our tax slip for the year or can we estimate our income from payslips (we're well over the threshhold for grants I believe so I can't be 4rsed chasing detailed info so the Dept of Adminstrative Affairs can leave it on a train.).

    .

    Done already!

Do it all online. Much more efficient than it used to be, if you link with the UCAS number it pulls all the information across.

If you know that they will not be eligible for anything above the minimum level, they can choose to just apply for the non-means tested maintenance loan and the fees loan. That way your are not required to complete anything.

They need their passport, bank account details and UCAS number. Should take less than 15 minutes.

NP near St Albans's could visit the waffle house for very tasty waffles.

I thought of that too when the conversation turned to waffles - funny thing is the only time I have been is before I lived here.
