I do too GBD, especially as it holds lots of happy memories and you just don't seem the get the same amount of space for similar money in a bungalow.
They have lived there nearly 42 and a bit years, I was born in the front bedroom! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
It is not just about the bedrooms. If you are going to spend a lot of time in your home, you want room to move around, room to entertain and room to spread out your possessions. So a 2 bed (always nice to have a guest room) may suffice, but downstairs you want a reasonable sized kitchen and a lounge and a dining room..at least. Plus a bit of a garden is nice, downstairs toilet is convenient.
When you live alone, the rooms you don't go into start to annoy you ....0 -
If they are short of money, they may be able to get some help adapting the house, eg stair lift and downstairs lavatory. I'm not sure which local authority department they need to talk to, maybe social services? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

The smaller house is far, far nicer, more status better location, and though smaller, the rooms are better sizes imo.*grins*.
Obviously I'm not going to snap it up .... just being nosey.0 -
I managed to do the hateful box shifting stuff.... and it didn't rain. It rained this morning, it's been threatening to rain the rest of the day and there's a big black cloud outside my window... but I didn't get rained on during my loading, driving, unloading.... which is great.
I then enjoyed a hot pasty lunch in the car overlooking 2-3 beaches.0 -

If you haven't already gone HD, it's worth paying the extra (it was about £40) and get a terabyte box. The amount of storage it has compared to standard is staggering. You don't have that scrabble around to delete stuff in order to record something space-intensive.
I have the HD box, but I don't pay the extra £10 a month to receive the HD channels - so get BBC and other 'terrestrial' channels in HD but not any of the sky channels.
So are you saying that I could just upgrade to sky HD and get F1 through that? Probably not worth it to get an extra 8 races or whatever is left now, especially as some of them will be in the middle of the night!0 -

Get a second dish or second LNB bracket you will have RTL and the F1 in no time, its a german channel so mute TV and put radio 5 on and away you go.

Poor old Rupert Murdoch, he just doesn't know what is going on. The poor old dear. Sounds like some sort of remake of the film Inception, with coverups within coverups within coverups, and all the while Rupert had no idea what was going on. I wonder how his media empire managed to grow so large and powerful given the fact that he is just a bumbling old grandad who doesn't know what's going on most of the time.0

The old "mute it and put the radio on" approach is something I tried once when Channel 5 managed to buy the rights to some England football matches (I think it was England v Poland) and installed Jonathan Pierce (who ironically later moved to radio 5) as their lead commentator.
He was so awful that I muted him and put the radio on, but the radio commentary was about a second ahead so I had to bite the bullet and listen to his drivel. A time delay probably wouldn't be quite as annoying with F1, but I reckon it would still grate quite a lot.
Unfortunately I cannot install a second dish, as I am in a building with 13 flats and a shared dish.0 -
Elderly parents are a nightmare.
Mine decided to move into a 1 bed bungalow. I told them not to do it, but they went ahead.:(
Once they were in this little bungalow, Dad then set about adding an extension .... He was then almost 80.
PN, this is one of our pasty eating spots:
In the car if it's like today, or down on the bench if it's nice.
