Came across another brain-teaser today to share with the NPs
Four people need to cross a rickety bridge in the dark. They have only one torch which they need to carry to avoid falling and the bridge can’t hold more than 2 people without breaking. It’s going to break in 17 minutes time anyway.
The four people have different maximum speeds .
John can cross in 1 minute, George in 2 , Paul in 5 and Ringo in 10.
How do they get across in time (they’ve no jetpacks, giant catapults, spare torches or any other gimmicks)?
Any takers? Just post it on here, don't worry about PMing it. First correct answer gets all the kudos /glory/respect.:)
John and George Cross. Time elapsed 2 mins.
George crosses back with the torch. Time elapsed 4 mins.
Paul and Ringo cross. Time elapsed 14 mins.
John crosses back with the torch. Time elapsed 15 mins.
John and George cross again. Time elapsed 17 mins.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

And just in the nick of time!
Well done!
I thought this would keep people guessing until about 10AM:cool:

What a difference a year makes.
23 April 2011:

I remember we had Easter brekky in the garden, puffing in glorious sunshine and Easter Monday we were dipping our toes in the sea.0 -
Too right Wheezy. I'm still waiting to mow the lawn for the first time this year. Since the grass started growing again, It's rained every single time I've been home and not working. Still, at least I don't have to worry about finding time to wash my car with the hose pipe ban.
It's sunny this morning, rain forecast for this afternoon. I'm hoping the lawn will dry enough for me to nip out and mow it before the grand prix starts, but no chance just yet, its still sodden from all the rain yesterday (and there was a lot here). Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I'm not going to start a separate thread for this as most of the people who would find it interesting stop by here anyway. There was a very interesting article in Vanity Fair about the spat between Putin and Khodorkovsky that gives an interesting insight into oligarchs, the Khodorkovsky threat and the Russian political system. Be warned though, it is long, even if it's a fascinating read:

Wow, ours is up around our ankles again having been cut with the wretch hover by dh last weekend. It always grows better in the garden than in the field where its growth could be profitable!:D. We did a really late cut too.....
Dh phoned some friends who offered us their replaced sit on lawn mower and we will be hiring a trailer in the next week or so. Our lovely friends think it may only last a season or two, they have had it donkeys years, but they re replacing a dopdgy tyre for us and gifting it to us as it saves them making another decision with what to do with a very old but working lawnmower too good for the tip, too old to sell.
I also know its quite a robust one, he used to use it on weeds in their field so i can probably do the same and attack our thistles all the time.0 -
The problem with my lawnmower lir is it is electric, so I have to be careful when I mow. However as I do absolutely nothing to feed my lawn or keep it nice looking, it is only ankle length in spite of its neglect. Anyhow, I've just heard that my Dad is coming up to sort the woodwork in my hallway, which is fantastic, however it means I won't get to see the GP or mow the lawn...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We put this in our quarterly company newsletter once except it was a river to be rowed across and four spice girls with different speeds, despite having explained it to a few customers I still couldn't remember the answer...
We cut the grass once whenit was warm but haven't been able to do it since cos of the rain - the few bits that are grass are now quite long. Our electric hover can't really cope with long or wet so if it gets out of hand it is a real struggle to get it cut at allAnd like Viva there doesn't seem to be much chance of it drying out and staying dry any time soon...

So is ours! Having broken three since moving  we are using my parents weeny hover on two xtention leads. Its a pain, and i am so excited to be getting a proper mower, because it will be a job i can do with out dh. (i find the hover impossible for more than about quarter of an hour)0 -

You got wound up over the Aspie issue, I got wound up over the sense of entitlement, the fact she's got her fingers in her ears and doesn't listen and the fact she's a bigot. Oh there's something there to frustrate everyone.
I don't really find it offensive or annoying, I don't claim to know anything about the subject matter. I just wonder why on earth she is bothering to post purporting to seek advice when she clearly has no intention of listening to anyone's advice. So ludicrously blinkered that I suspect trolling. I hope it's trolling anyway.0
