We never did find out what is meant to happen to the socket with a label saying 'warning do not switch off'.

AIUI that's normally to do with the appliance that's plugged into it rather than the plug socket itself. Would that make sense?
Well yes, unless you prefer to line dry rather than use a tumble dryer, then you are lugging heavier wet washing downstairs and outside.

I suspect in the US (Florida) you don't bother to line dry, especially as for a lot of the year the sun is so strong the clothes would probably be destroyed.

I don't think I've ever seen a washing line in America, ever. Everyone I know has a tumble drier, one of my friends has two as he says that he takes a load of laundry out and it is better then dried half in each drier! Yet relatives in equally hot Australia have rotary washing lines everywhere. I think it is because they are proud of being home to its invention.

There are washing lines, or used to be, talking twenty plus years ago. Driers were more common than here though then. I know we didn't have one because my mother has never had one, and i also know we were not odd for not having one...just for other reasons, and they were always already installed when we got there, as standard in The condo blocks we were often in usually, somewhere near the HUGE satalite dishes.

Yay, have reached the end! Re 9/11. DH and I spent ages on the phone to each other that day. Those who know what he does for a living will understand why. Our lives and plans changed 180 degrees on that day, but can't go into more detail on an open forum. Subsequently we both found out that we knew (different) people in the twin towers. Fortunately they both survived.

On a different note, my Mum refers to the death of Diana as the day on which the whole of Britain lost its stiff upper lip. She traces everything - from the tears on Britain's Got Talent through to public displays of affection back to that one day. I'm not entirely convinced she's wrong.

Says it on the plug and this plug goes to a little box, wired in, also saying it. Wires seem to go outside. Its on in the pic. Sometimes, in act of defiance i switch it off. Nothing has happened.:)

Edit shoddy paint and paint blob on carpet is our fault. That is a particularly forgotten corner as it is behind the umbrellas and polo sticks. (i'll save the trouble and say posh alert myself. I know some people do not use brollies)

I was at a staff meeting when 9/11 happened. We continued, with occasional updates from someone not required to attend, but as we had no visuals, the enormity of what had happened didn't immediately strike home. I expect we were discussing something vitally important, like SATs. ;)

My kids woke me to tell me about Diana, as it was a Sunday morning and they were up first.

I was in the local cafe when Kennedy's assassination was announced. I've only just realised how early I began hanging around in coffee bars! :o

I have no idea how many sockets we have and little intention of counting them, but besides the windows, we have 7 ways to leave the building! :rotfl:

Don 't think so......nothing here now, and no evidence of a removed indoor unit ......

The socket could be: heating system, heating timer, telephone extension/power lead, power to outside bell, power to television extension system ... or any random thing the last owner needed at one point and might not even exist any more.

Did something daft and bought "3 for £1" cans of Harry Ramsdens mushy peas the other week ... now trying to eat everything I have, so I am not moving food.... so tonight's tea is the last of the oven chips, a cheese omelette and some mushy peas. Did something daft with the cheese too .... for some bizarre reason I didn't look at the pack size/price as I was purely looking at the £/100g price ... and realised at the till I've got a £5 block of cheese... not sure I can get through that in 10 days.... unless I only eat cheese (and peas) and nothing else!!
