Although today has been quite emotional...which is quite surprising as it all relates to sofas.
I have been p*wned, double p*wned and dep*wned all in the space of about 12 hours. I think I need a lie down.

I don't understand this, but my guess is it is to do with professional shopping? Well done you.0 -
All that talk of oak....
I have lit the wood burner. We don't have much wood left so its a real luxury, specially as not wearing many clothes. We have loads of that leylandei....loads of it, but not sure about using it in the woodburner because of the narrow flue. Next winter we might have a fireplace to put it on. That throughs out a suprising amount of heat actually, Its a shame it gums up chimneys, britains hedges could keep many people warm!0 -

Are you insured? Can you climb trees?
It does seem a shame to waste the wood. I'm now thinking it would be silly to pay the tree guy money to take the wood away, when freegle or the like would probably get rid of it free. But would people be prepared to carry wood 200 foot up the garden to get free supplies?
We had a willow taken down a couple of years ago, it had electricty cables running through it so we did not attempt it ourselves. £350 to fell and grind out the stump. They chipped and removed the branches and chopped the trunk. We freecycled the logs and had lots of takers.
We have also had people prepared to dig and barrow the contents of our muck heap some distance because they wanted the spoils. So if it has value to people they will make an effort.0 -

I could never work out which was the worst option when out:
a] Looking like I had been stood up
b] Looking like nobody ever asked in the first place.
Enjoy!0 -

The people at our local allotment seemed really enthusiastic when we told them about the muck heap here....well rotted now mainly muck not bedding......but they never did come for it.
I want to bag it and sell it at the gate but dh is opposed. 50p a sack not quite full for easy tramsportation seems good to me...0 -

I'm certain we wouldn't manage all of it - we're only down for a couple of nights and there is the driving to get there in the first place but I'm sure we will go to at least some of those places - they sound like great suggestions. Here's hoping for some nice weather!
For a lazy time - especially if you're already an NT member and want a freebie: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/levant-mine/
In St Just there's a big round open arena space right in the centre of town - the Plain-an-Gwarry: http://www.historic-cornwall.org.uk/a2m/medieval/plain_an_gwarry/st_just/st_just.htm
And another stone circle in the area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tregeseal_East_stone_circle - but that's a bit of a walk, so pub's probably better.0 -
