As for inheritance, i hope there is no money, i would like my parents to spend it all on themselves. They have worked hard for what they have, making very many sacrifices for us, and if one moves in here they will put a bathroom in. Thats a huge bonus for us. I would really rather they live each day from now to the end to the full than try and leave something for us. Its only something else to worry about when they die otherwise.
My parents squirrelled it all ... major scrimping and doing without for a lifetime ... squirrelling it all away - but then old1 left it all to old2 ... and old2 promptly went mental and now it's all going to pay fees
So, any "I've left you well provided for" thoughts from my old, who spent their life "planning" and "saving for old age" went right up the swanny. Left us kids nothing, the old assumed we'd get the lot.0 -

She’s only 55, but is starting to bung money in accounts in our names, and I can only assume the same will happen if there’s anything left of the mortgage when she retires (NHS lump sum, and she owes my sister £216k, as it’s on a BTL mortgage, but not commercial.)
Got stopped by Met Police on my way into the office tonight (I’ve just got in), as my car has been zooming round London ‘between 9pm and 6am’ for the last 3 nights. This would be correct, as we’re on studio turnovers and my car is “CK (Europe) Ltd’s” taxi (not real company name)

And we can't take it now ..... else they'll want it back in X years under "deprivation"
And the irony is that 'favourite' has had massive cuts at work and with the cost of fuel going up and their work expenses system being wiped out so they can't claim any any more .... they're going under and I am not sure how to save them.... and it's what the departed old would have wanted if it'd been explained/understood and sorted out properly.
It was always a secret - the money thing - the old did it, you don't need to know.....
Departed old would have paid off half their mortgage - but it's now the remaining old's money .... and I am powerless to just write a cheque for that.0 -

We’ve got the setup so that they can enjoy what they have now whilst getting rid of what she doesn’t need. She’s been on between £85 and £102k-ish for the last 7 years in the same job, so take-home is about £63k. As she’s already stated, she doesn’t need it all, nor does she want it all. Her pension will be about 2/3 of this.
I do see where you’re coming from, and you do raise a valid point here, but Alice and I are going to have to go through everything before we go anywhere, and we’d rather not do it.💙💛 💔0 -

She’s a Sonographer that ended up as a manager for one of the largest Radiology departments in the country.
I didn’t mean to rub it in, sorry PN!💙💛 💔0 -

My father's income was larger, but only in the last third of his career., but they have wasted a lot of it, their choices, and the pensions they squirreled away into, when they really were not well off and i was young, they went over the side of a yacht. My parents have made a series of poor choices and had bad luck. The pension now has to go further as they divorce.....i really want them to spend ALL of it on them. And io am sure they will find them selves able too.0 -
from the figures being thrown around on this board, i am in the wrong job.
Or appreciate other things in life.
This board does have a dispproportionate amount of high earners, just as mse has a disproportionate amount of financially savvy people making money wrk gard for them, like michaels..
Dh and i probably cancel each other out bringing our income down to something more 'normal'.
Speaking of which, we are looking forward to this summer flexitime, almost a perk enough to take a pay cut for in the future....dh is finding the lighter work load very slightly boring mid week but has been able to go out more with friends on those days as the day actually has an end, unlike usual. He says its a weird feeling of having decide what to do with time instead of just cramming essentials in.0 -
lir: Seems v unfair what people earn sometimes.
Anyways, if OH has flexitime in the summer, it would be easier to arrange a meet-up.0 -

Well misskool, i sort of agree...but, people make their choices much of the time, ability and luck providing. As you know, dh did something else first and only swapped for a regular decent income when he wanted to ask me to marry him, and involved retraining. i never forget what good luck has done for us, and how quickly bad luck has wiped it out once already.
A good income has givenus choice, but even though many would scream horror at dh's wage packet, we still have a mortgage, and its not like we can spend money willynilly.
We would be MUCH better off if we had bought a nice little house near London and not got animals!:D. As it is, we are happier with our choices....for now!
edit: and definitely better for meet ups. I think his day off will always be a friday though.....making traffic horror!0
