There is a certain irony in removing an oak to pave way for solar panels. It may be that we go for a smaller system and leave the oak.
I was thinking that myself. Would be such a shame to lose something beautiful and old in the name of 'progress'Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

What about the trees on the left of the picture? It may be just the camera angle, but it looks to me as though they could shade the shed roof. For solar panels, it's really important not to have any shade at all on any panel, because they're wired in series so shading of any part of it increases the resistance and brings the whole string down to lower voltage. Remind us again why you don't want them to be on the roof of your house?
I suspect sss is right and it would be best to have the inverter in the shed or summerhouse rather than the house, although at full power, the DC voltage is actually higher than the AC voltage, so the power loss shouldn't be significant over that kind of distance.
Have spoken to my neighbour who is going to take a copy of some of his data for me to have a look at and tell you about.
The tree on the left is not tall enough to shade the shed roof, its about 80' in front of it, so no threat.
The roof of the house is south facing to the front, but its an odd shape, there is a ridge running west->east then a gable with ridge south->north, then a smaller ridge set back from the gable going west->east. The smaller ridge is mainly in the shadow of the gable, so the only real possibility is the section of the roof running west-> east and they could fit on less than 3kwP on that bit, so a smaller system. Plus its a 1930s house; it would look ugly with solar panels stuck on half of it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. imagine how awful it would be. you'd have had to pay £100,000 for that painting of half an orange for a start!
we've got nowt in our flat apart from a few photos of someone elses babies stuck to the fridge. i wouldn't mind sticking up some arty photographs of some agitated ferrets, or a grumpy rhino or something like that but i can't be bothered, there will only be an argument with the LL when we come to moving out.0 -

We have hung our tat most places we have lived. Never had a problem with it tbh. And yes, i could not have bought the half orange if more people liked it.
And i do love it.
I don't know why there is a doozer quote in here0 -

It's okay, you're alright.
We all had that same dream within a week of our first post on this thread

Ah that makes sense now. Thanks for explaining. I'm enjoying following the progress of your decision making.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Normally art doesn't do anything for me...but that one makes me feel peckish for something tangy and juicy. A peeled half orange like that wouldn't hang around long enough in our house for anyone to paint it
