If it is,I've got 5 more like that, or larger, but they aren't for sale, unless I become destitute. :A
Too late to add a posh alert for the stripes.....:(0 -
Nice lawn - ours is mostly moss, once I am more mature I will dedicate myself to having a good lawn although my hay fever means I will never be able to appreciate a good lawn the way I did as a child
Hayfever disappears, suddenly, some time in your 40s
No enclosure for the trampoline - is that safe?A constant debate. Allegedly people are more careful when they have less protection. The trampoline is massive, so if you stay central, you have to stray a long way to risk falling off.
Our lawn was moss because there was a stand of about 15 leylandii down the south boundary which were 20-25 feet tall - these were taken down and shredded for 500 quid by 3 guys in half a day but they could be felled whole (using a rope to make sure they fell the right way). We've just had 100foot of leyylandi topped from 15' to about 8' for £600.
It would be a shame to lose the oak and it doesn't seem to actually shade the panels, are you sure it has to go?It has to go because of the debris it would drop on the panels, not because of the shade.
There is a certain irony in removing an oak to pave way for solar panels. It may be that we go for a smaller system and leave the oak.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We looked into the worth of one of pur oaks...doozer THE oak by the birdy housing estate in avatar,
And for our little oak it wasn't worth it (we have considered it being a beam somewhere in our house)0 -

Available for free to anyone that wants to collect.
Should I list it on Ebay: One oak, buyer to dismantle and transport.chewmylegoff wrote: »good lawn management. i used to take great pride in mowing stripes into my parents' lawn. i don't think they looked quite that good though...
I won't claim any credit, other than paying the gardeners.
The section of garden in the picture used to have far more fruit trees, judging from the dips and bumps in the lawn.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I would seriously sell the wood, or at least offer it free to collect, unless you have a fireplace. Too wasteful otherwise! Wish we were closer to you!:D0 -

Bit worrying doozer didn't spot it.

The trees and the solar panels:
http://flic.kr/p/by8ac5
I'm facing north taking the photo, so straight north would be pointing between the two trees.
The majority of the solar panels would go on the shed roof that you can just see (facing south) on the left hand side.
The remaining panels panels would go on the summer house roof.
The oak tree is centre of the picture. For some reason it always gets its leaves later than other trees, but it is in fairly good condition. It drops a lot of debris on the summer house roof, so really needs to be cut down. The mainly dead tree is to the right of the oak and whereas it is out of harms way, some branches are showing signs of rotting, so it should really come down.
I'm guessing the houses behind are about 20' tall and are slightly elevated from us, so the tree could be 40'????
To put the picture in perspective, the summerhouse is I think 25' wide and the cherry blossom that has lost most of its blossom already (LHS) is about 60' from the summer house.Reminds my of my aunts place in Surrey.
The tree in the middle looks more like 50' to me and does look like a substantial job. Just make sure they are fully insured for any damage.
Would there not be a lot of inefficiency by running the generated power to the house or would the inverter be in the summer house.
I may be barking up the wrong tree, Lydia will know.
What about the trees on the left of the picture? It may be just the camera angle, but it looks to me as though they could shade the shed roof. For solar panels, it's really important not to have any shade at all on any panel, because they're wired in series so shading of any part of it increases the resistance and brings the whole string down to lower voltage. Remind us again why you don't want them to be on the roof of your house?
I suspect sss is right and it would be best to have the inverter in the shed or summerhouse rather than the house, although at full power, the DC voltage is actually higher than the AC voltage, so the power loss shouldn't be significant over that kind of distance.
Have spoken to my neighbour who is going to take a copy of some of his data for me to have a look at and tell you about.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
