London prices I guess.
Wary of not using a pro, if they crash they land in the Summer house, so no solar PVs.
Could leave the stumps at about 8' quite happily. Part of the cost must be schlepping the wood 200' up the garden and taking it away. Side walkway is standard 3' width and no other exit.
Silver, by way of comparison we had two small trees felled recently and it cost £350 including taking the wood away and disposing of it. One was small, narrow trunk, about 10ft tall. The other one was taller and had a trunk about 2ft across. That was by a locally based gardening firm who were under contract but this counted as additional work. Stumps left. Before I get a posh alert, this was for the estate where I live, I don't have a contract for a gardener.
They cut the limbs off first then took the tree down in sections. Where my mil lives, the neighbour cut down some leylandii in their back garden. They landed on one garden fence and squashed it, then another, then another, then another. It was quite spectacular. Still either of the other ways and it would have taken a roof out. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The trees are about 25-30' high each. Trunks about 4' wide. One is 80% dead with few branches, so really needs dealing with, though if it fell there isn't much it could hit and I suppose anything it did hit would be insured. It's only the solar panels that make its removal important. The other is an oak that is not that pretty but has a lot of foliage that falls directly onto the summer house roof, so it's only the solar panels that mean its removal would be a good thing.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We are feeling torn because while its nice to help people out its a whole day of a weekend eaten up, and frankly, this guy is heavy going, but dh is fond of him. Artistically its not.....enjoyable.....
Tell him to play it. NP will all agree to come and watch.0 -

Pity it's an oak that has to cop it, as they're just about the most important trees for wildlife, supporting around 400 species.
We have one that must go too, as it is too close to the main drain.....can't even pull out the stump, I fear.
If the trees are 4' wide, that is quite different from the trees we dealt with. Nevertheless, I'm sure my tree man would love the work at those prices.....and yes, he's insured, as he deals with stuff on county roads when there's a fall in the area.

Its not so much the one off thing, its the fact he will then want more and more...he is a cheepskate too....he gets paid and neepver even offers to refund fuel and i think also, the cost of fuel these days is relevant, as well as a precious day.
His material hasn't changed since i have known dh, and dh says its been the same since he was young, and dh's dad said it was the same in the sixties
. If it were goi g to be knew and exciting, or, um....good, maybe we would feel more inspired.
So the gig's awkward and unrewarding. Tick
The man's ungrateful and demanding. Tick
Does the gig offer a chance of better gigs through new contacts in any way?
Otherwise just politely duck out.
Ungrateful people need to learn why nobody goes out of their way to help them.
So that's the favour you should do for him.
