I'd say that the scariest bit is the slow realisation that our criminal justice system isn't very good at finding criminals and finding them guilty. This isn't a dig at barristers, or the judiciary, or police, rather the system as a whole. Also how much politics plays a role in things and changes stuff around, not always for the good. The funny bits are mainly anecdotal. There's a fair bit about the difference between clerks and barristers and how barristers get sent to horrible magistrates courts and youth courts in the back and beyond because they are at the bottom of the pile - just out of pupilage and not yet in residency. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

It's strange given how prolific he is, but the two books you see taken out all the time, even though they are both pretty old now, are Birdsong and Engelby. The Bond stuff has a different audience. I get the impression that because he doesn't write to series he isn't one of those authors that people want to go through his body of work.
Incidentally, if anyone does like particular authors and wants to read books in order, this is a great website:

Thanks. According to that, I have read his latest if that is still A Week in December, but it was a while back now. It wasn't what I was expecting. I didn't not enjoy it, but nowhere near as much as the others.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We kept DS out of hospital over the weekend but at the cost of him being given steroids

That's the one, and OH loathed it, said it was cliched, superficial, irritating, pompous, and contained lots of unnecessary extra superfluous verbiage. I told you he didn't like it (-:vivatifosi wrote: »I'd say that the scariest bit is the slow realisation that our criminal justice system isn't very good at finding criminals and finding them guilty. Hard to think of ways which are better, though. Torture, for example, can be rather useful. But also has drawbacks.
Eye witnesses are usually thought of as being the best possible evidence, but humans actually make rather bad recorders of fact.vivatifosi wrote: »Also how much politics plays a role in things and changes stuff around, not always for the good. Tenancy (-:
And yes, being a third sixth pupil, otherwise known as a squatter, isn't much fun. Pupillage isn't, either....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I feel so untalented today, neither a poet nor a purveyor of amusing adverts. We kept DS out of hospital over the weekend but at the cost of him being given steroids - not sure if that was a good thing or not and 3 nights of not much sleep for me listening out for his coughing and wheezing left me falling asleep at my desk today then home to have to drive to next town to pick up DDs from brownies then home to cook dinner so late dinner and knackered.
I'm with you there, I have just spent the last week doing the same with youngest.....and then I got the cold and still feel eugh today and I had the major asthma attack last night, so role reversal a little with youngest having to rush to get my puffers out.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
