Ah, zagubov - what a nice welcome!
As of last weekend I'm an ex-London NP :( Although I'm not sure I really counted as one anyway as I lived at the very end of the Met line (in Middlesex, just within the M25). Have moved back to my parents' (Warwickshire) to finish off a t.h.e.s.i.s. (have difficulty saying the word :o), and generally sort myself out. Last week was the end of a job, living in London and a 5 year relationship!

Had been quite busy at work trying to not leave things in a complete mess for my successor. Having been covering the job of at least 2.5 people for the past 9 months on my own, I didn't quite manage it despite pulling some very long hours but at least I tried. Also started restaurant 'mystery shopping' in the past 6 months - turned out I'm not bad at writing the reports so I was trying to make the most of eating out in different places before being unemployed/ relying on the charity of my parents/ being in a small town :)

    big hugs

    good luck

and you know i'm happy to help if you need it :)

Oh dear. Sounds rough. Hope your parents are looking after you.

Only those of us who have suffered through a thesis really get how burdensome they are. I remember telling someone that I felt as though mine was a process of wading through treacle of inexorably increasing viscosity, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to get to the end of it before it hardened completely and I came to a complete halt. But I finished in the end, and I passed, and now I'm Dr J, so there is hope for you too.

I'm going with this being a spoof article... surely?!

Ooops. :o I should have read it properly instead of just the first paragraph or so because I was in a hurry. Yes, you're right. :rotfl:
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

If someone offered me a breathe mint I would take it as a sign that I needed to concentrate on my oral hygiene rather than that I was Gods gift...

..I associate this 'thinking that one is specail' with a public school education, controversial for NP thread I know and we have done that debate so don't need to again.

I am like Viva, 5'11 (and a half) but only a 31 inside leg. I find I have to buy shirts in sizes that drown me so that they stay tucked in. Funnily enough I also find there is not enough leg room on planes and theatres - may be it is only below the knee that I am a dwarf?!

Fully adjustable to both of us is the MG Midget that Mr S bought for me (for my birthday in the first year we were married).

I had an MGB until son no.1 was born. 10 years ago, I bought a Mazda MX-5, which is just soooo much better than the MG in every way. Shame son no.3 wrote it off, and we now have a lumbering Volvo convertible instead.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

These are huge unstructured tasks. Also, the research is interesting, but the writing-up is not. It's no wonder so many people have issues getting them finished.

I should really have left where I was living and the person I was living with about 3 years ago, and certainly should have moved back up here over a year earlier. But I'm here now, and am definitely feeling looked after. :D

I'm sure I've used the 'wading' analogy many times before, and I certainly have been through a prolonged standstill period from being tired of trying to keep moving. I'm giving myself this week off (I have a vast amount of [STRIKE]junk [/STRIKE] vitally important stuff to assimilate into the belongings that have lived at my parents' for the last however many years whilst I have not, and then I will be re-acquainting myself with what feels like my previous life! (and not just spending my time aimlessly on the internet...)

In theory I have some structure in place. I have quite detailed plans of the chapters and subsections etc. I have a substantial amount of re-analysis to do, and also a lot of reading to catch up with  In theory as I did all the work it shouldn't be too difficult to write up but I did finish in the lab an embarrassingly long time ago :o I did more than my fair share of outside-work issues to deal with in this time, but I definitely would have made a meal of the writing without them too!

The spoof made me smile though I didn't read any of it.

Nikkster, hope you find light at the end of the tunnel soon and it all works out for the best. You are a nice person so start posting more. That's an order! :D

Silvercar, chilli flakes would have been a good addition to your soup.

On a stat "fetish" note. Yesterday seemed busy on the NPT and there was 134 posts from morning until end of play

Sorry, no offence but they are only huge and unstructured if you've not been properly supervised for it.

A piece of research is very rigid (science/english/social work) and you are specifically confined to your question. You need to be brought back to it when you start wandering around at more interesting things :rotfl: , which is where a good supervisor is worth their weight in gold.

One of the major points of writing up the d.a.m.n.e.d. thing is to be able to present a piece of coherent work. :)

I still hate writing up :(, much prefer the researching bit
