In my first car I had to sit on a folded pillow to see out of the window, then I really had to stretch to get the clutch in with my toe.
Later on, in a job I had, to get a Mercedes 911 into reverse gear (7.5 tonne van) I had to actually hold onto the steering wheel, while standing in the cab, with my foot on the clutch and reaching over as far as I could to get the gear stick engaged into reverse as it was "away from me and forward".
I've also test driven some cars, such as an Alfa Romeo Twin Spark Veloce (1987 model) and by the time my feet could reach the pedal, the sterring wheel was virtually in my chest and the gear stick was almost inaccessible as it was near my armpit by then.
I suspect cars are a little more standardised these days. Sports cars seemed to give me the most issues.
It is certaonly true so far as i can see that most cars are not designed for shorter people with short legs and big busts, my mother has that problem all the time.0 -

I had the same thought this morning, not so bad at all round here thank goodness, though the schools being out is more apparant. Has inbeen organised i would have done a shop any day before today, but i haven't been so i have to brave the shops on the same day as people who confuse easter with the end of the world and /or a bread and milk eating competition. I need neither bread, nor milk, but they still clog up the tills and shop.0 -
It's a "visit the old" day today.... so it'll be a 50 mile round trip, which puts me 100 yards from a petrol station 3p/litre cheaper than the cheapest within 10 miles - so it makes sense to remember to fill up. Got half a tank though, so it's important, not urgent.
I'd have gone earlier, except it's a big round robin trip involving shopping for old treats ... and post pickups/house checking ... and then the visit ... and the fill up. So the postman's round time dictates my agenda. All in all, this will take 4-5 hours out of my day even if nobody gets in my way, simply because of the distances involved - that's why I like to lump it all together into one round robin.0 -

Just remembered, car's being serviced soon.... better not fill it up before that. I'd rather take it into the garage empty than full
But I have just remembered I have to wrap some easter gifts for the old.... d4mn, forgot that or I'd have done it sooner
In fact, got so much to do today ... I'm going to make it a bigger round Robin - so off now... . back later with jobs jobbed0 -
Easter gifts? Other than eggs?

I tried to make a pepper and tomato soup.
Bought times of crushed tomatoes to make life easier and misjudged how many tomatoes in a tin.
Then had the hassle of grilling then peeling peppers, wouldn't have chosen this soup had I known that.
Over filled the dodgy blender so soup went all over the Worktop, dripped on the floor and splashed my clothes.
Then tasted it and it tastes of tomatoes and nothing else. So had to cook up some onions to add to it.
3 hours later and it's passable. Just.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Planes are a no-go unless it an emergency exit seat. Always booked in advance.
Cars vary hugely. I tend to know what works but size isn't always a guide.
eg Ford Ka (not tried the newer models) are fine (passenger not to drive), but Minis are terrible. Not tried actually driving anything that small though. I guess most would be a no.
VW's, Audi's and BMW's are mostly fine. Japanese makes are mostly terrible.0 -
