Been out of the country for a bit and just catching up..gobsmacked at the price of petrol in UK  £1.45 per litre, thinking of using the bike for work.
On the subject of height; I am the shortest in the family now at 5' 5 (and a quarter), OH 6', 2 sons 6'4 and 6'5 and daughter 5'8. My mother was 5'3 which was average then and apparently I am 'average' for my generation. They tell us its better nutrition that does it.
I must admit I'm partial to Bruce Springsteen (showing my age) David Beckham (because he's a gentleman, and I have to admit, a bit young for me) and the bloke who works in Argos who has a lovely smile...sigh..
That is amazing that your children are so tall! DH is praying that DS gets over 6' which would be impossible from the genes on his side of the family. My dad was a beanpole, so it's possible I guess and he eats really well and fresh, doesn't have a particularly sweet tooth - he's blessed in that respect.
I love that you like the guy in Argos. I was dumbstruck and turned beetroot when our new community bobby started talking to me in the local shop. He has great teeth.
Has any one seen that advert with Peter Kay that used to be on? I'll have to find a link.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I tried to make a pepper and tomato soup.
Bought times of crushed tomatoes to make life easier and misjudged how many tomatoes in a tin.
Then had the hassle of grilling then peeling peppers, wouldn't have chosen this soup had I known that.
Over filled the dodgy blender so soup went all over the Worktop, dripped on the floor and splashed my clothes.
Then tasted it and it tastes of tomatoes and nothing else. So had to cook up some onions to add to it.
3 hours later and it's passable. Just.
I'd leave the skins on the peppers if it's going in the blender. Easier way would be to chuck all the ingredients, fresh tomatoes in a huge baking tray, garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper and yes, onions and whatever spices or herbs were going in. Roast it until it gets some good colour on it and then blend it with stock.
No work at all.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

[STRIKE]What an impossibly conceited bloke. Does he really believe no woman would point out that he'd dropped a coin unless she fancied him? Words fail me.[/STRIKE] Cleverly written and very funny. Next time I should read the article properly instead of commenting after reading the first paragraph in a hurry.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Nikkster- you're back! :jAre you well? You've been missed (well at least by the London NPs).
I like to think you've been hiding in tayyabs or similarly good food places.
Shouldn't have said that- I'm jealous from imagining great grub.
Oh dear - I've just seen the last BBC2 analogue programme ever:A:(
Time moves on!
Ah, zagubov - what a nice welcome!
As of last weekend I'm an ex-London NPAlthough I'm not sure I really counted as one anyway as I lived at the very end of the Met line (in Middlesex, just within the M25). Have moved back to my parents' (Warwickshire) to finish off a t.h.e.s.i.s. (have difficulty saying the word
), and generally sort myself out. Last week was the end of a job, living in London and a 5 year relationship!
Had been quite busy at work trying to not leave things in a complete mess for my successor. Having been covering the job of at least 2.5 people for the past 9 months on my own, I didn't quite manage it despite pulling some very long hours but at least I tried. Also started restaurant 'mystery shopping' in the past 6 months - turned out I'm not bad at writing the reports so I was trying to make the most of eating out in different places before being unemployed/ relying on the charity of my parents/ being in a small town
Didn't manage to fit in a last visit to Tayaabsbut have promised I will treat myself if/ when I submit. I think I failed to reply to a question a while back about when was best to visit? The only time I haven't seen a queue is lunchtime - or before 7pm. There is a restaurant run by ex-Tayaabs people just around the corner (called Needo) which is also pretty good. I think my favourite curry house was on Commercial Road though. If I remember correctly it's called Lahore (but there are helpfully a couple of places on that road with the same name). It is pretty basic, but massive inside, great value and the food was really good. Also good for meal was Maedah Grill (not sure if I spelt that right), which is a Turkish place just down the road from Tayaabs.

Perhaps he's waiting for the penny to drop! :rotfl:
I'm getting tired of reading articles from people wearing the Emperor's new clothes.0 -

Cars vary hugely. I tend to know what works but size isn't always a guide.
eg Ford Ka (not tried the newer models) are fine (passenger not to drive), but Minis are terrible. Not tried actually driving anything that small though. I guess most would be a no.
VW's, Audi's and BMW's are mostly fine. Japanese makes are mostly terrible.
Mr Spirit (6'3") took over 60 flights last year. Rarely business class, so always books an aisle seat.
We treated ourselves to a 1965 split screen camper for our silver wedding anniversary. Imported it from New York and thought we would have it for ever. I was too small to drive it as the seat was fixed I couldn't reach the pedals and to put the handbrake on I had to duck down below the dashboard, Mr Spirit was too tall as the driving position required him to be crouched over the steering wheel. After a 2 week trip around France it took six months of Physio to fix his back.
Fully adjustable to both of us is the MG Midget that Mr S bought for me (for my birthday in the first year we were married).0 -
