We've got covered4life classic with Petplan
    http://www.petplan.co.uk/therightcover/dog-classic-benefits.asp

It was recommended by our vet, I can't personally recommend it because we never had to claim or deal with them (apart from paying premiums :p), but maybe worth checking out, zag.

I'm not enjoying the flavour of the humble pie I'm eating right now. All my mates were paying about £25 a month for petplan and similar lifetime policies which I couldn't afford.

Argos was great and a great price so I felt I had a better deal; now it's going to cost more than everybody else's and this "credit agreement contract" with it looks utterly cr4p.:(

Ouch! Dog insurance renewal quote just arrived. Turns out Argios are switching underwriters for our terrier's lifetime insurance so the monthly premium's hiked from £17 to £36!:eek:

My sister has a Shih-Tzu and it was attacked by a Rottweiler (while on holiday), the vet opened up his surgery and operated to save the dogs life (although she still lost an eyeicon9.gif) , he only charged £300, when back home the vet didn't even charge for the bits and pieces to finalise treatment, so that £36 a month seems pretty expensive.

My parents had Petplan on their previous dogs. They can't insure this one as she was taken on old and with a pre-existing condition, but they were very good - as well as the ones recommended by the vets.

Avatar-dog was insured with Direct Line. They coughed up OK when he got attacked by an English bull terrier and needed 38 stitches and extensive follow-up. The bill came to £900+ all told, I think. That was a while ago, now, though.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

We have no pet insurances, but we know three vets personally and they're all pretty reasonable around here, especially if it's just a hen. The last antibiotics we were given for the poultry cost 66p!

They charged us at 1/2 rate for the last consultation too, "because they are just pullets." They'll find a reason to help out, if they can. :)

I would pay much more than that to get home to my dw 90 minutes sooner - I'm sure your DH is just the same (although I think we should both be concerned about this...)

:mad:OH on a flight home (internal flight, journey time about 1 hour) and was offered £125 to wait for the next flight 80 minutes later and he said no!

Slightly better, but not enough to compensate. I took the little car to the manned car wash, was chatting (sweetly-see previous post) to the guy in charge. It came time to pay and I had a fully stamped loyalty card so I was expecting to pay the difference between the inside+outside wash and the outside only, and the guy said I could have it free. :) So that is the 3rd thing today, things always happen in threes.

What's with the food relations - do you get a kick back when pet goes to doggie heaven from the canning factory?
Martin has a piece about pet insurance zag.

My advice would be see who your vet has food relations with. We don't have all ours insured, which is the right choice for us, buit the ones we do cost a bomb

I saw the story on BBC earlier and yes, culturally insensitive as I am, it did make me smile.

I’d personally take the free £125, but that’s just me. OH can wait for an hour or so extra.

I would turn down the £125 personally. Especially if it's a budget airline. I hate airports even more than wet passports and you never know if the second plane will actually turn up, you could be stuck there much longer.

For £500 I might consider it.
