DH works for an airline so if we're flying standby we're bumped before anyone else. However when we are on a full ticket, if we are asked to take the next flight we also ask to be upgraded for the inconvenience, sometimes that can also be arranged in addition to cash, especially if they are desperate (never come forward first). Well worth it if you can get it, don't ask, don't get...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? My guess is Edinburgh...
From Hertfordshire I would imagine that it would have to be Scotland or NI as you can drive pretty much anywhere else in less time than it takes to drive to the airport, park up, go through checks, sit in lounge, fly, get off other end, find way on to public transport... Plus we have good train links to most places via either Watford Junction (west coast) or Stevenage (east). I can't imagine it would be anywhere other than those, other places such as Newquay - not enough flights or businesses to put it in the frame.
When I've been to Scotland its always been Edinburgh I've been stuck at, never Glasgow. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? :mad:OH on a flight home (internal flight, journey time about 1 hour) and was offered £125 to wait for the next flight 80 minutes later and he said no!
Slightly better, but not enough to compensate.
Ages ago when I used to have to fly abroad to visit the now-Mrs Zag I was offered a hotel for the night (and a 3-figure sum in $) if I would agree to be bumped to the next day. I'd just ended a two-week visit and I turned it down as I had a pile of marking to hand in to my boss.
With hindsight I could have wined and dined Mrs Zag in a nice hotel as a great way of ending the holiday, and I felt a right chump later for not realising my boss would just accept my flight was full and I couldn't get a seat.
Later spoke to a work colleague who returned late from a holiday in Asia, as she was bumped, but apparently not being given accommodation and compensation.
In her case it took her days to realise the check-in staff were expecting a modest "tip" to let her board and she didn't twig what everybody else was doing. Of course maybe she was just being bumped and making dosh out of it but I'm not so sure of that.
Looking at "Pets at home" pet insurance which seems to tick all the boxes (spent the evening comparing policies). Anybody know anything about them? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I'm around 60 miles from Prestwick and 80 miles to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and 120 to Manchester and Liverpool. Prestwick is closest but a bad road so it's still 1hr 30 mins away. I've flown from them all many times except Newcastle once and Liverpool once
The best thing about Prestwick was when they come over the tannoy 30 minutes before schedule .... Ok so were all here so can we all board the Cardiff flight no XXX and we will get going. You don't get that at the bigger airports.
The best view is taking off from Prestwick, west, where you get a good view of ailsa craig and landing at Edinburgh from the east is a nice view too.0 -
Not really been around for the last couple of days, horribly busy with meetings at school, appointments at doctors and then today, youngest developing a horrendous cold which has completely beggered his asthma (hence me posting at this time of night)....think it is going to be a pretty sleepless night.
On a positive note, James had his parents evening yesterday and it was all good news...especially from his philosophy teacher. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Ouch! Dog insurance renewal quote just arrived. Turns out Argios are switching underwriters for our terrier's lifetime insurance so the monthly premium's hiked from £17 to £36!:eek:
Furthermore it looks like they're tasking it on credit so we have to buy it over a year at 0% and presumably have to pay all year even if we lose the dog! (hoping not to, but we have insurance because we can imagine all sorts going wrong with the little feller).
What a horrible change! He's only claimed for a couple of lost claws (he's a clumsy git). Any other dog owners here recommend a good lifetime policy?
Not a dog but I have my cat on a life on illness policy through helpucover, will have to check my records of what I pay but it is not too horrendous and I get free jabs each year included.
I'm still in positive money as I took it originally with cashback which made the first year payment amount to less than £20, plus he needed a very big operation (double severe hip dysplasia) which would have cost me in excess of 2k. He has had further treatment since then and still requires another operation but each time, the claim has been settled directly with the vet.
My Tesco one I had for my late elder cat was another matter, it started off a fair bit cheaper than Jasper's one but ended up being slightly more, I had to pay the vet and then claim back and it took 4 weeks each time...oh and was not life of illness cover either. We made it! Am I alone in there being a little part of me wishing they would say "Elvis Presley has left the building"?Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
