Am I alone in there being a little part of me wishing they would say "Elvis Presley has left the building"?

I always think of that about Prestwick too :)

Thanks for the time and advice everybody. Will investigate Pets at home a bit further.

Sticking with a lifetime policy but now realising the good value of these is erased if they switch underwriters (I gather another big high street name did this a couple of years back).

I was braced for this happening but not for the sheer scale of the hike and the ghastliness of the contract - if Groucho Marx had written it I'd be more ready to sign it.

I'm around 60 miles from Prestwick and 80 miles to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and 120 to Manchester and Liverpool. Prestwick is closest but a bad road so it's still 1hr 30 mins away. I've flown from them all many times except Newcastle once and Liverpool once

The best thing about Prestwick was when they come over the tannoy 30 minutes before schedule .... Ok so were all here so can we all board the Cardiff flight no XXX and we will get going. You don't get that at the bigger airports.

The best view is taking off from Prestwick, west, where you get a good view of ailsa craig and landing at Edinburgh from the east is a nice view too.

Had to get from Surrey to a friend’s funeral in a town near Carlisle. Was surprised how difficult it was to get to. Train(s) to Gatwick flight to Newcastle, metro to train station, slow train towards Carlisle, got off a sleepy station walked in an unmarked path across a wood. Climbed a fence ran across the A69, found a taxi in the village got taxi to service (turned out the taxi driver knew my mate).

Taxi, train, metro back to Newcastle airport, flight to Heathrow, underground to bus station then bus home. Only got a couple of hours there to share memories and say my goodbyes, but I felt I’d made the effort, and was glad to be there IYKWIM.

With hindsight might have gone more smoothly if I’d flown to Glasgow and taken train to Carlisle.

Ended up wondering if Carlisle is the most remote place from an airport in the UK? Or from the sound of it, wherever you live sss555s sounds even more inaccessable.

If we get into an inaccessibility competition, Pastures will probably win it.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    Hello :)

I got a new keyboard for my laptop. Look - QQQQQQQQQ!!!!!!

I haven't read much, just bits over the last few weeks. Thank goodness LJ is back! What else have I missed?

Doozer Dog is insured through AXA - they're hardly likely to change their underwriter ;) He came with Petplan but it went up to about £18 a month. With AXA it's under £11. At the time we got him, I thought that Petplan or AXA were the only ones to have for the best cover - has that changed?

    Curious lot.

It was British airways, Edinburgh to Heathrow. He then got caught in the M25 Friday afternoon traffic.

Don't believe I will see a pay rise this year but I can hope.

On the house front contracts are now exchanged and packing has started.

Well done. Are the buyers the same people that had a problem getting a mortgage?

Hello doozer i have missed you.

Have you started your new job?

    I missed you too!

No, still waiting for the enhanced CRB to come back. I've not been well, combined with using the energy I have into starting a business plan for something in a year or two's time. Also, trying to launch the boy into fixing other people's houses - facebook pages, twittering on a lot, organising breakfast networking appointments and so forth for him. I need some serious SEO work though, I still have to pay a visit to the library for a Dummy's guide, but I might have to pay someone to do that for me. And we have drawings back to apply for PP for 2 houses in the garden. Just waiting to do the design & access statement, break the news to the neighbours :( and apply for it. I've been learning to use my really fancy estimating software, and will be launching myself into pricing up the build of those houses. And the company accounts are due shortly, which is fun.

In fact, no wonder I'm shattered!

Today I've been scraping paint off my floors and dog dirtiness off my white leather sofa. Joyous.

Ooh, I went to see the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel this week, it was FABULOUS. I do recommend it to nice people, especially nice girls, but I think boys would enjoy it too.

I do need to catch up with all the nice people news though, I'd love it if someone would fill me in.
