How can someone of the PM's background look so uncomfortable in a dinner jacket? <<shaky head smilie>>

I saw an excellent eccentric on George St in Sydney yesterday, I see him every month or so.

He's about 70 I guess, and drives an electric buggy at a brisk walking pace. He wears a jacket, trousers and a white crash helmet and has a 2ft tall plastic Elvis statuette standing on a black grand piano taped to the front of the wheelchair.

On the back he has strapped what used to be called a 'ghetto blaster' in less PC times. Yesterday he was blasting out, loudly enough to stop people on their mobile phones, '60 Seconds to What?' by Ennio Morricone:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFtmdorQG-U&feature=related

followed by another Morricone track I know from the films but can't find on You Tube.

Other times he plays 70s rock (think Led Zep), prog rock:eek:, psychedelia, New Wave or techno as the fancy takes him. Whatever he plays though, it's gotta be loud!

He's a bit of a Sydney legend. He reminds me a bit of the old fella in Worthing that used to salute the traffic wearing a commissionaire's outfit.

I was at the local crematorium yesterday for a friend's funeral, and I noticed that right next to the conveyor where the coffin leaves was a sign saying FIRE EXIT.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Okay, guys and guyesses, I need some serious advice please. My son has received uni offers from Edinburgh, Lancaster, and McGill. Which should he take? We live in London, btw, and I shall probably have to foot most of the bill.

My goodness, is anyone watching the news? What on earth is Sam Cam wearing? She has on a long high neck dress the style of which is lovely but the fabric..... It looks like one of those polyester flowery covers that you used to get to put over a worn out sofa - adverts for them used to fall out of the Sunday supplements up until about 10 years ago. It is hideous.

i've got a pair of trousers like that....;)

on the samcam vs. michbama debate, i wouldn't touch either with your barge pole.

i've never heard of mcgill, but lancaster and edinburgh both have good reputations and wouldn't result in me automatically throwing a cv in a bin.

presume mcgill is foreign, and on a par reputationally?

if so, then (if you can afford to send him to them all) would suggest that he chooses whichever one he liked the most on the open day.

p.s. i'm not sure why MSE has attached a little sad face to my post, but i didn't do it!

How does he feel about travelling? ( and thinks like you frail mil, how would he feel not being able to get home quickly in a rush)

Which is best for HIS subject and career choice?

Where would he like to work and live in the future?

In answer to Chewhislegoff, McGill is in Canada, and it is well-ranked internationally - generally McGill > Edinburgh > Lancaster. I expect that McGill will cost more per year, but Edinburgh is a 4 year course. (Maybe we should move to Scotland, so Edinburgh is free?)

LIR, those are very, very good questions - I will ask.
