Drive up to somewhere on the berry coach route.

Yes, and SW7 is on the Piccadilly Line, so only a few stops from Hammersmith.

Tiverton is probably the best bet, for route SF1 via Taunton and Bridgwater. You can park opposite the Bus Station in the multi-storey car park, but remember to park OUTSIDE the gates, as they close the car park early (HID made that mistake once) :o

If you use the SF1 route you should get one of their brand spanking new MAN Astrobels.

Hi Pastures, you could probably get a cheap Travelodge on the outskirts of London for £60 or poss a bit less, drive to the nearest tube line, park, for a couple of quid and use an Oyster card. That's probably the cheapest.
Other threads are pushing Travellodge Heathrow - can probabaly get into town by easybus for £2. I'd try this link, input "heathrow" and loook at some prices and find out about parking charges as well. Not my side of town so don't know much about it.:o If you want to stay inside the London boundary, parking's an issue and pretty much impossible in the city centre.

Agree you need an oyster card. Me, I just like walking around towns but if you just need to get from A to B the buses or underground will do the job:)

    Why are things so complicated.

I've managed to find someone selling a spare tyre for my car (rather than rely on the foam stuff it comes with). But I need to arrange for it to be collected. Without packaged measurements, the quotes are coming in at £40, that is from a bidding courier site anyvan.com

I've registered for something in London... not sure why as I doubt I'll actually have the motivation to go.

But it's the whole transport/accommodation thing that's offputting.

It's in a conference centre at SW7 4LH and a quick look at the website says it's a 4 star deluxe hotel .... although the price looked cheap enough (assuming the price they gave me of £144 was for two nights and not per night on their website).

Anyway, there's NO WAY I'd be paying £144 even for two nights, no matter how lovely the place is.

I also get a free ticket.

So ... if there are any NPs who want to go to an internet marketing event for 3 days later this month and who have room to put me up and park my car..... and who know their way round that new-fangled underground transport system.... I'm up for a trade.

I hate it when things are [a] in London/without parking in posh places.

I'm a bit far away. If you want a cheap hotel nearby try Earls Court. There are plenty of places that are clean and cheap round there.

Gen, on the off chance you are around, what's the best place to stay in Sydney if going to a late finishing concert 1.30am at Luna Park? No car and can see that public transport is sparse. Have been looking at the Rock - Sebel other side of SHB.

For those following the will he/won't he saga, DH may still go to Sydney for four days, but there's one travel sector he can't fly standby. Other earlier problem solved.

Depending where it is the other end, i have a suggestion that would be cheaper. Drive up to somewhere on the berry coach route.

    http://www.berryscoaches.co.uk/wSearch.do?tourType=superfast

Its comfortable, usually quiet, as in quiet passengers and drops you at hammers, ith, which is ok for connections. I have used it. While i prefer the train, this is MUCH cheaper, and would probably work out most cost and time effective, half journey driving, half coach, especially if you end up at a hotel not a np house. I used to get it at wincanton, where the pick up is next to what i think is a longstay carpark.

Otherwise i think michaels offer is generous, and a not abnormal commute.

What part of london is the thing at?
I clicked and don't know where most of those places are that it goes from.... so I'll need to click on lots of things to work out how long it takes etc.

Might work, but I'd need to drive for two hours to get to one of those places, then find somewhere safe to park and pay for parking (yet to be understood/found/priced). And they don't tell you at the start how long it takes.... badly designed website, written by somebody that knows the system :)

    Event is in SW7.

I've never heard of half the places that it goes from - so first thing is to plot those on a map to see where they are.

Purch thinks tiverton, sounds about right to me, though i am patchy on that geography that far west....:D

Wincanton has free parking i think and is about four mins off the 303. The only thing is you might prefer the m5 m4 route driving, which is why wester sounds better to me, also, less time ithe car. Purch might be able to give better direction to free and easy tiverton parking?

I have a electricity monitor, courtesy of British Gas.

Suddenly DS is switching off lights and shouting "does that make a difference"?

Background electricity with some lights and all these gadgets and appliances always plugged in, gives us a reading of 1.2-1.4kw.

Right, found my way round it.

2 hours to get to the closest point, if there are no holdups.
4 hours to get to Hammersmith, no idea where that is
X to get from Hammersmith to SW7

    £22 return, plus diesel cost of £35-40. Parking £16 = £75 ish.

Yes, Divvy Tivvy is the first/lowest point of the journey: http://g.co/maps/4gbd5 (google short link)

I am 120 miles from D.T. 90 miles to the motorway, then 30 miles up it.
