wheezy, i've only just finished beating up viva and stealing sss555s' dinner money over the mushroom dispute, do i really need to assert the supremacy of the english chip by tying your shoe laces together and giving you a shove?

There's only one true chip: the Belgian "frite".
Often copied abroad but never equalled.

There is the right chip for the right meal imo.

The british chunky with fish and chips, the belgian frite with mussels. Like roast potatos. A british roastie with a sunday lunch is excellent, but the french/ continental small cubed ones are better with things like grilled duck.

And I dislike being shoved while my shoe laces are tied!

PN - Can't make the thang but you are welcome to stay here - transport is probably 75 mins door to door and £25 per day

Parking here is free but it is definitely no smoking
Cheers... 15 minutes is what I'd prefer :)

Looked at the hotel, it's £104/night. Fri-Sun, 9-5 is the thing, they suggest people stay Sunday night too for networking after the event itself... but, in any case, I'd want Thu-Sat nights, so that'd be £312. The darned thing only costs £125 for 3 days' attendance.... so it seems double-nuts to be paying £75 for diesel (500 miles return) and £312 for hotel for something that's only £42/day to attend.

If I'd already moved ... it'd be just 200 miles return, or virtually round the corner!

I registered, because I could ... and I've until the 19th to cancel. If I cancel I get future invites; so I can do that.

Went before and enjoyed it. It was at Gatwick Hilton then - and I stayed at the Corner House Hotel locally http://www.thecornerhouse.co.uk/rates.html - although that seems to have shot up in price too. £49.95/night for a single without en-suite.

I wouldn't feel comfortable staying in a hotel without an en-suite.

Depending where it is the other end, i have a suggestion that would be cheaper. Drive up to somewhere on the berry coach route.

Its comfortable, usually quiet, as in quiet passengers and drops you at hammers, ith, which is ok for connections. I have used it. While i prefer the train, this is MUCH cheaper, and would probably work out most cost and time effective, half journey driving, half coach, especially if you end up at a hotel not a np house. I used to get it at wincanton, where the pick up is next to what i think is a longstay carpark.

Otherwise i think michaels offer is generous, and a not abnormal commute.

What part of london is the thing at?

Hi Pastures, you could probably get a cheap Travelodge on the outskirts of London for £60 or poss a bit less, drive to the nearest tube line, park, for a couple of quid and use an Oyster card. That's probably the cheapest.
