I should apply for some and issue: "Most people disagree with study findings" followed by "Most people think that study findings are often bl00dy obvious".

Maybe we should all just eat brussels.

I have found more nastiness since becoming a single parent, more assumption regarding my morals and a lot less leeway than as a married parent. But I also use that to my advantage, it always gives me a little smile to see a look of shock on a teachers face because the expectation of my not supporting my child's education has been unfounded.

For the life of me, I cannot understand how I can 'change' my status from being completely middle class to being scum class, just because I have to rely on benefits, I'm still the same person with the same morals and values as before, just I don't have the money to go with it. It is not as if as soon as someone goes on benefits they go through a personality and criminality change...hence why I get so het up at times.

Sprouts, cabbage et al, hate them all....mainly because I had a brace as a child and on one particular day some of the veg got caught under the dental plate and the teacher would not allow me to go to the toilets to sort it out and as the day went on, the taste in my mouth became worse. Now it is instant ueugh just at the smell of the stuff (although I do cook it for the boys)

My health visitor did try to get me to eat greens when James was small, said if I didn't eat them then James wouldn't either....well Mrs health visitor, all 3 boys love their veg and even caused a stir at a wedding reception by asking for veg to go with their nuggets and chips (the hosts had arranged for only that meal choice for the children, my boys would have preferred the adult meal)

We have a couple of decent fish and chip shops, where the chips are chipped freshly on site and the fish cooked to order....one shop though is fairly expensive (although very worth it), both do enormous chips portions, one large portion does the four of us.

And for all my faith, all the boys are atheists.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Our friends live near Solihull and we just went for a walk in the city centre : from Bull Ring through New Street, then town hall? some shopping mall, memorial gardens, new concert hall (nice architecture that one, the rings), then walked a bit more, had a couple of pints in a pub next to the canal. Weather was lovely also.

Where as it was the weekend i should have been there and wasn't.

Checking in with friends and it was not 'our' year. Two big dogs of our close relation (half siblings) won their classes, but thats all.

Dog dogs family did rathe better including best of breed, but not the one i thought would take that. Dog dog with a non broken leg would have cleaned up this year looking at wins. :D Still, i think i have decided to spay her this year:(. Breeder would have her back to whelp but......if she were gonna do it i would want to be there with her and i have to much going on here to spend a fortnight awake with pups and bottles....her family have big litters.

Edit: Oooooh just checked the kennels i have shrtlisted as fav for next dog also won best of breed!

I think part of the issue is everybody's hanging onto the single parent label when, to me, that means something different to your situation.

We used to have lots of words that covered things. You'd be "an abandoned wife/woman" and met with sympathy and understanding. LydiaJ would simply be a widow. And single parent was reserved for hussies that dropped their kecks outside of a committed relationship.

    :)

I've registered for something in London... not sure why as I doubt I'll actually have the motivation to go.

But it's the whole transport/accommodation thing that's offputting.

It's in a conference centre at SW7 4LH and a quick look at the website says it's a 4 star deluxe hotel .... although the price looked cheap enough (assuming the price they gave me of £144 was for two nights and not per night on their website).

Anyway, there's NO WAY I'd be paying £144 even for two nights, no matter how lovely the place is.

I also get a free ticket.

So ... if there are any NPs who want to go to an internet marketing event for 3 days later this month and who have room to put me up and park my car..... and who know their way round that new-fangled underground transport system.... I'm up for a trade.

I hate it when things are [a] in London/without parking in posh places.

PN - Can't make the thang but you are welcome to stay here - transport is probably 75 mins door to door and £25 per day

Parking here is free but it is definitely no smoking
    I think....

It was quite a culture shock for me when I first visited a chippy here. The guy just scooped out of a trough and then asked if I wanted vinegar on them.

In Belgium, as you can see on this informative piccy :), there is a batch of pre-fried chips ready at the back of the chippy above the kettles. (pre fried at 150 deg C)
When you order, they put the required amount of chips in the 180 deg C. frying pan for the final fry.

    frituur3.jpg

Also, there's a lot of choice in all kinds of fried meat, cheese, fish snacks in the counter as you can see. (these are also fried to order and never kept warm in a counter)

Over here, I've been to places where the choice was a fish, a battered sausage and a fish pie.

First thing we do when going to Belgium is visiting a chippy. :)

But also, chips are very different to 'fries'. To be a continental fry is a crisp chip, golden and crisp, where as a chippy chip is often crisp on the outside, but importantly has some sogginess and sweetness to the inside. I actually prefer chips, as opposed to frites or fries, to have more sog factor, so i eat the soggy ones and dh eats the crisp ones. Away from polite company i suck out the inside of soggy chips :o

When you say 'fries' I think of that junk you get in McD?

Chips (or 'frites') in Belgium, definitely needs to be soggy inside also, crisp outside.

I think the English taste is towards a more soggy chip. I once took a UK colleague to a Belgian chippy and he didn't like it.
Also, we never, ever, put vinegar on our chips/frites/fries.
