I use Vaseline for slugs and also to stop cats climbing over fences. Don't know what I would use if I didn't grow in pots though.

Unposh alert: DH may now not be going to Sydney. A problem has arisen.

Not quite as OT as it might first sound, another good book you might like to read might be "the Annotated Alice" by (I know, we've all guessed it) Martin Gardner. He puts Lewis Carroll's works in context and explains the Victorians obsessions with tunnels.

In one of his other books "Sylvie and Bruno" Lewis describes the gravity train that takes 42 minutes to fall through the Earth to anywhere in the world. Before they knew about the mantle and tectonic plates of course!:A

You'd proably find Martin's religous/non-religous views interesting. I most admire him for contributing to "the Skeptical Enquirer" a myth-debunking magazine every school should have copies of. ;)

He let slip how much it'd cost and you've put your foot down?

:rotfl: we don't have that type of relationship. Because we don't have kids, we've always taken the view that we're both - for the most part - sensible people. We've bought a house together and accrued pensions and some savings, therefore for both of us I don't tell him what to spend his money on and vice versa. We don't have a joint bank account either, he pays the mortgage, I pay all the bills and it works out roughly the same. Also it wouldn't cost much because of who he works for.

An issue has arisen that makes timing problematic, but all is ok here.

Oooh, by the way zag, the book you mentioned the other day, I was doing some work in non-fiction and came across it. It is now on the shelf in the office waiting for a space to come free for me to issue it. I'm nearly at the end of Boomerang, by Michael Lewis, which is about the financial crisis in Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Germany and the USA so there will be a space then. Not that it will be the next one read, but at least it will make the pile!
