Having looked at the curent NP topics or liberalisation, have any NPs ever been to Amsterdam? Back in my student days there was an ex- CIA agent exiled there (Philip Agee, I think it was) who was a bit of a cause celebre.
After having visited it, I found myself thinking how agreeable the whole city was, even to an English-speaker. If you had to stay in one city and not leave it for years or even decades, you could pick a worse one.
I have a few Dutch friends and have been to Amsterdam on a day trip though I stayed up in Eindhoven. I liked all of the Dutch cities with the possible exception of the Hague, which for some reason seemed a lot more uptight than any of the others I'd been to. If anyone else has been there I wonder if they found it the same. Amsterdam was lovely, but the flipside of having such a lenient drug culture was that we had our car broken into by a drug addict. The attitude of the police was "that always happens there" and they seemed to think that the part of Amsterdam we parked in attracted drug-users from other countries with less lenient policies who then stole to get by. One of the unintended consequences of a liberal policy I guess.I love the way your OH reads your posts and worries about what some random NP may interpret.
My OH takes no interest in my ramblings at all.
Nor mine. Most of the time my being on here just elicits the comment "GAFL"Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Something i wanted to do this year was improve asian cookery ability.
I am dead chudffed with the mongolian lamb sauce i have made this afternoon.. I'm not sure how long my lamb will take to grill though....recipes seem to just say until its crispy......
In any case, no rush, far too early.
Saly i know my stirfried veg and noodles will let it down. I am almost the worlds worst stirfrier....0 -
Blimey lir. I am one of the worlds worst cooks. I made biscuits once and got grams and ounces mixed up, couldn't work out why I needed so much flour and ended up with something that could only be used to lay a patio. Even I can stir fry. Mongolian lamb though, no chuffing chance. That must have been a very ambitious stir fry. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I am the worst birthday cake maker. When eldest was little I made what I thought reasonably resembled his favourite teddy, he asked me why I had made a cat! After a few other dodgy attempts the boys suggested I buy in future.
For the recent 18th I bought an ice cream themed cake from Tesco, stuck a photo on facebook with DS2 blowing out the candles and got some "wow" comments, clearly some of my FB friends don't know the history.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Food spend so far today is therefore about 45p.
It's turned quite cold out though ... and nothing hot to cook and don't want to get dressed/go out in the cold to find something to heat up. I've no heating/hot water until tomorrow. I've got an electric fire here, but I have a very real fear of most electrical items (and gas items and even water systems). . . so kind of trying to brave it out. If I had something to heat up though, I'm not scared of the oven (daren't use the hob though), so I could use that to warm up, except I'd be scared to use it empty.
I just have this phenomenal fear that anything electrical (fires and ovens and showers) will catch fire. I'm fine with PCs, laptops, TVs, fridge/freezers. Washing machines are a grey area. It sucks to be me0 -

I think I have a photo of that somewhere.
Been trying to sort out all my photos (which are on various drives/directories all over the place) as well as scanning in the entire olds' colections going back 80 years.... and I think I saw hobnob pizza 2-3 days ago, I'll look...0 -

We found that bag thieves targeted us in a restaurant by spreading round a map over the table but the waitress raised the alarm .
The transport looked chaotic and we saw a lot of accidents involving bikes, trams, cars so I suppose the stories about mixed modes of transport never integrating well together must be true to some extent.
I loved the way the second-hand book shops had a good mix of dutch, german and english language ones and there was a three-story WHSmith in the centre! A very funny feling of being abroad and at home at the same time. I do wonder if Dublin feels similar- always meant to go but have never been.:oThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
