Middle son saw what he thought was a shooting star while we were at my brother's house last night...we all told him he was seeing things!
Looking at the reports this morning, it appears he wasn't seeing things (it was around the time stated in the reports).
Its not so unusual to see a shooting star any way, is it?0 -

Me too. In terms of the drugs thing there's no point in legalising them if the state goes all nanny and then funds their support because they can no longer work. I think my thoughts are more libertarian - do what you want providing it doesn't hurt anyone else and doing so won't lead to a greater reliance on government funding. However I know that our government - whatever shade is in power - can't help tinkering and that tinkering inevitably costs money. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Having looked at the curent NP topics or liberalisation, have any NPs ever been to Amsterdam? Back in my student days there was an ex- CIA agent exiled there (Philip Agee, I think it was) who was a bit of a cause celebre.
After having visited it, I found myself thinking how agreeable the whole city was, even to an English-speaker. If you had to stay in one city and not leave it for years or even decades, you could pick a worse one. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
It does have to be said that the West's drug policies do cause untold harm in other countries so are almost certainly immoral. I think legalisation would work but then I don't have an addictive personality so probably can't understand the issues from the perspective of the many people who do.I think....0

Just bought daughter a macbook on ebay for her 18th, and was so impressed I'd be tempted to move on to a new machine myself if I had the money (which I don't).
Personally I've found ebay to be reliable and trust it. Paypal's a disaster and scares the heck out of me, after a recent transaction went wrong and I found there was no way to stop it. (The problem with the transaction was that the money came out of my mortgage account not my credit card , both of which were with the same bank based in a country we both love to visit)

Nice present choice:)
I've been bitten by eBay, supplied a phone once that was sold because of low battery life, something that can never be proved, sent compatible cartridges with dodgy sticker on them. I've also been threatened with PayPal reclaims if I don't refund, when the goods were definitely received. In one case I suspect that someone deliberately broke an item rather than say they had changed their mind. I've also had some good deals, but enough bad 'uns that I would be nervous of spending a lot of money on an item.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Dh has read above and wishes me to point out i left it open whether i had taken illegal drugs or legal substaces, bar ruling out cannabis or whether this was voluntary or not. There is something else interesting about it all but nothing i am prepared to say....
Personally though i am happy for people to make what ever assumption they like, the exact truth is too much like a soap plot to discuss ...0 -

I love the way your OH reads your posts and worries about what some random NP may interpret.

I'm probably remembering this wrongly but, Viva, I thought you were looking for reading suggestions. Having seen some of your comments on this and other threads I'd suggest to you (and any other NP) to try "Don't get fooled again" by Richard Wilson. ( Not the "One Foot in The Grave" actor, btw)
It covers a lot of things many of us feel strongly about.:T
Follow the amazon link and read the product description. I'm too MSE to buy it but I've borrowed it from my local library for the second time. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I'm not a big ebay fan and would only buy BIN from legit looking suppliers. I don't think I even I have an account since it was hacked a few years ago and I removed my bank access from paypal.
It took a bit of effort to temporarily re-enable paypal to roll a egg the other Easter.
I would far rather use Amazon.
The contact lenses are helping but I still think they could be a little bit better. I will see what's what when I go back in a couple of weeks. There is no charge for eye tests or contact check ups here and they sent me packing with lenses in, bottle of cleaner and the holders, without asking for any payment.0 -
That looks interesting, definitely my type of book.
