Met Office now saying it was a meteorite, not a comet.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

CKhalvashi, I have to ask, are you a mad eurovision fan like I am? Sorry, not stalking, have seen some of your music posts elsewhere on the forum and am curious.

I have contacts up here, and have done a fair bit of work for this company.

    This is my job! :)

Lucky you! We have a Eurovision night round our house every year. Just DH and me, but we get a takeaway and have an elaborate scoring system as to our favourites. We don't tend to get it right very often. We have been known to swap notes hereabouts. The Ukranian lady with the sand painting was a big hit on this thread's predecessor.

    Kseniya Simonova, she’s amazing.

I’ve got her phone number firmly lodged somewhere in my phonebook.

One of the faves last year was Eric Saade, who the Oh thinks is hot, and I’m spending 2 weeks in a hotel with JEdward for the 2nd year running

I didn't find Eric Saade or Jedward hot I'm afraid. My favourites from the last couple of years were the sixties sounding Serbian entry and I'm In Love with a Fairytale, which anyone could tell was going to win (even us). I've been told by someone who went to school with him that I know, that the guy who sang it was actually Russian, not Scandinavian, though whether that is true or not I don't know. I'm really bad at remembering names as you can tell. I know who Lordi and Dana International are, but they probably made the biggest impressions.

One of my favourites has got to be Carola (1983, 1991, 2006). I was lucky enough to work with her in Athens.

Although a boy fiddler winning the Eurovision makes Europe more liberal than I thought

This particular version is very good. He’s singing her song from 1983, she’s singing his from 2009!

Edit: He’s from a Russian family, was born in Minsk and grew up in Norway following the Soviet collapse.

Lydia or any of the scientists up still? The meteorite that passed across and was seen from most of the UK travelled in a broadly south westerly direction. There are rumours that it has landed somewhere in Merseyside, but as it is Saturday night and appear to be based on the helicopter being up, have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Meanwhile though there are alerts coming through that the same has happened in Sweden/Norway and landed in Norefell, SW Norway. Given that this one cannot have passed over the UK and the one that flew over the UK could not have then gone on to Norway/Sweden, is it possible that a much larger object has broken up on entry into the earth's atmosphere?

I’ve just Skyped Malin Reitan after reading that, although she’s far from a scientist. It’s in the news in Norway, and has landed somewhere near Trondheim, so that’s looking to be correct.

No info from the UK front, though, and having an MA in International Relations, I’m not in a professional position to be able to answer that one.
