I think you should be ok returning them in any other packaging, Lydia
http://whatconsumer.co.uk/returns-and-refunds/Under a distance selling contract, a supplier cannot make refunds subject to the goods being returned unopened in their original packaging. One of the principles of the distance selling regulations is to give you a chance to examine the goods at home, not having had a chance to do so in the shop. It would be impossible for you to do this without opening the packaging and trying the product out. Having said this, you will still be under a duty to take reasonable care of the goods while in your possession, and may be subject to certain instructions such as not to wear shoes outdoors, or remove hygiene seals. But you can never be penalised simply because you did not return the goods in their original packaging.0 -
Do not keep them if they will annoy you. Send them back wrapped in other suitable wrapping.0

I have to say I don't think it is really fair on the retailer if they could no longer be sold because the correct packaging has gone - after all you did have the chance to examine them before throwign away the packaging.
Why don't you email the seller politely explaining what has happened and ask them if they are happy to accept the return?
(If it was me I would probably try and force them to take it under DSR but feel slightly guilty about doing so....)I think....0 -
I would put the packaging back together and send them back, provided the postage doesnt cost a lot.
Me and DH looked into adoption a number of years ago and we were told that as DH was 10 years older then me, it was unlikely that we would be considered as there were others waiting to adopt who were younger. OK I understand that but when I questioned them, it seemed that here the cut off was 50 years of age. Think this has now changed. DH didnt want to push it any further, think he felt upset. We were offered a child from India (spent a lot of time out there) which we declined (too much to go into on here) but we assisted the child through school and college and is now a nurse and supporting her family so all came good in the end.
I have some good news:D:D went to hospital today to have eye tests for glaucoma and I haven't got it!!! Am so, so very happy, have to go back next year and be retested but a little sniffter of red vino is on the cards for later.

Well, I don't think I could have examined them properly without opening the packaging, which meant tearing open the plastic, so I suspect that the fact that I removed the staples from the cardboard doesn't make much additional difference. They were sold flat, in a plastic cover with a carboard bit along one side and plastic hanging hook. I'm returning them in the original packaging, but of course it's no longer unopened. I've parcelled it all up with lots of cardboard and bubble wrap, and I've filled in a "return request" on the retailer's website, explaining politely that the butterflies are lovely but the scribbles are not to my taste, so we'll see what happens. I suspect that getting stuff back with the packaging no longer pristine is just part of the way the cookie crumbles for online retailers - but on the other hand they don't have to waste any stock for display that therefore becomes shop-soiled.
So.... now I have to think of something else instead. I like paper lanterns because they conceal the bulb from every angle (other than standing directly below peering upwards through a small hole, of course), but I'm happy to consider other types of shade that also do the same thing without being too expensive. I'd like something that will look a bit interesting without dominating the room, and predominantly white/yellow so the things in the room still look the right colours.
I am now considering this. It's marketed for a baby's bedroom, but I don't think it looks very specifically babyish to me. I'd like the NP's honest opinions, please, about whether a pair of them would look silly in a dining room. If it helps, you may like to know that the walls are currently a very pale yellow (with a hint of green). When I matched it for the replastered wall, it seemed to be Dulux "lunar falls", although when I look at that online it looks much more creamy/pinky on screen than IRL. There are open-treaded wooden stairs in a teak sort of colour, and green blinds that will probably not stay once I've got some curtains, but I need a curtain pole before I can do that!
If any NP want to suggest light shades I may like, feel free!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Honestly, i would be none the wiser if the retailer sent me undamaged paper globes in a clear pastic stapled closed bag suitably protected in transit.0 -
Lydia, i like the baby lampshade more i think, its sort of scandivian/ modern arts and crafts y and i think that sort of reflects the workmanship in your wood staircase...the feel of something done simply but with mind to finish and appearance. Tbh, i like that wall sticker linked too, but that would probablyi be taking things too far for most people, but i can imagine a whole unforbidden (the un is important) fruit and simple joys sort of vibe.
Is it not too small though?
I also like that is light, and bright, like your personality. I would hVe to see it next to the walls to remark on a colour combination though!0 -

Thank you. It says it's 40cm diameter, so I think that would be fine for size. There are two ceiling lights in the dining room, so we'll need two of whatever we end up getting.
OK I've just worked out what you mean by the wall stickers. They're in the "you may also like" - right? It seems to change what's over there each time you refresh the page, so I didn't see them to start with. Those do look to me like something for a child's room rather than a grown-up dining room, but yes, they're rather fun.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? There is one with a height chart...but perhaps that is to childish for a dining room. Uless you measure the nutriousness of a meal by if your children are taller after finishing than they were before supper!
Tbh, i don't think it matters how approprite something is, just whether or nit it makes you happy!:). Its not going to detract from the value of your home if you sell0 -
LIR will convert the cheese room into your bedroom.
You may even choose between Bob The Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine wall paper.
Pn is only wee, so she could have secret dwarf room, which i am happy to paint pure brilliant what for her and fit a tv so she can watch back to back property show.0
