Good. Things should begin to return to normal tomorrow.
Like you, I'm waiting to turn the external system on again and get the stuff in the polytunnel watered.
However, I won't be around so much next week, as I'll be in the Dark Ages, revolting against the wicked Prince John every night.
So.....moving out of pheasantry and into peasantry. (Thankfully, the real jokes are a bit better than that!)

Charity shop cook book haul today included:
Nigellas kitchen (3.99, above normal limit of three quid but it is a very new book)
Australian womens weekly book of modern classics (2.50)
Deserts to die for, 2.50 but was sold before at another charity shop for 1.50......seeing that more and more....and selling for more than original sale price
The food of the world.....lovely pics £3. That one was 30 quid new. Weirdly it has no date opn it, i had to google the isbn to discover it was published in 2008. This is an issue here because dh and i play a little came called guess the date with second hand books
Not bad. A lot of cash in all, but don't go shopping much these days. Next week i am going t proper new shops (ok, outlet villages) with my mother. Bet my haul won't be as exciting. We also got a chopping board that is a map of glocestershire, my glasses and jug, a huge glass bowl which i plan to put soaps in for the guest bathroom, when we have one. A big glass storage jar.
I have never spent time in this town before, only driveb through, and it was intersting mix of shops. Waitrose near wilkinsons. So many charity shops, and a lot, a lot, of empty shops. That was sad. Even in the shopping centres and near parking. A couple of good stalls on the street market. The thing that i found interesting in lioght of recent discussions about shoppinngand th ehigh street...out there with people extra to nps, is that the charity shops and secopnd hand shops really are more interesting. To expensive in some cases....not all, but more interesting. The chains have th same thing over and over and over. Too boring.0 -
Charity shops are always a good place to pick up cheap cookery books.... personally I've no need for them. My mother had quite a big collection - nothing great/marvellous, just the usual collection of dribs and drabs. She never used one of them, ever.... and she couldn't cook either.0

I love cook books. Bit worried that soon we'll be able to unpack them and see how many i really have....might have to have a prune at that point, but hope not. I love them.
I really wankt to get better at asian cooking or asian inspired cooking this year...but its february and i haven't made a start. My kitchen does not inspire me. I have a basin under the sink to cath drips from the leak in there, i can only ise half the cooker at a time and the whole room is a sod to clean. My kitchen table is covered with junk. I might clear up in there tomorrow.0 -

Are you sure you weren't in my town today? That's exactly what it's like where I am0 -

Our high street is like that - many charity shops in between the regular stores (but not many chains). Relatives who were in retail said all shops want to be next to other shops, as they encourage sales.
They called empty shops, banks, building societies, insurance offices, funeral parlours, surgeries, "dead front" that take up retail space but don't make sales.
They spread out and dilute the retail businesses so that people aren't in a buying mood. Shopkeepers are always pleased when a new shop moves into a derelict premises. At least charity shops encourage peole into being in a spending mood.
I was surprised to learn apparently UK charity shops have very classy goods at bargain prices compared with equivalent shops in other countries and quite a lot of tourists make a point of scouring them for bargains.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
My local high street gets a block of shut shops, the landlord hopping that having them unused will encourage the council to grant planning permission for something very profitable. Never works and the high street becomes less attractive.
Though the town now has Next + Starbucks + Laura Ashley + M&S food + Costa, so demographically it must seem attractive.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
