Just spent the afternoon preparing a talk for some rural biddies who meet up like the WI, but hopefully without the community singing.

What's the betting they now cancel, or I get there and two people show up? :(

Worse, what if they all show up and we're cut off by the snow? I can see it now; trapped for three days with......oh, the image is too extreme for a family forum like this!

I can't even open the site in Firefox. I'm in blah explorer at the moment. Not good. Goes to show how addicted we are that we're even trying to read the posts:o.

Working late, came in and had to walk the dog in the snow; now we're both covered in it. Briliant.

All the side roads have been teacherous in our end of London.
Hope it's all melted by tomorrow.

Has the site fixed its speed problems now? I'm using Firefox and it seems OK.

Seems OK, it went off air for a few hours - only just come back on.

Maybe "off air" applies to TV programmes, what is the cyberspace equivalent? "off virtuality"?

No snow here. Had the overnight frost last night, but the sun was out and bright so that all burnt off early enough.... and tonight's not even feeling cold enough for frost.

I saw Renovation Man earlier - a couple who bought a 14th/15th century Grade 1 Listed Medieval Manor in 2007 for £390k and spent £68k renovating it.

Seemed nice enough - although when you saw the plans of the original/old part, which had a big hall on the first floor (about 40'x20') with ground level storage, it looked like 25-30% of the exterior footprint was for the walls, which were thick. I'm sure they said one part is 12' thick, most seemed to be 3-6' thick. Apart from that bit, there was a later addition of a 3-storey annexe which provided bedrooms etc.

It was Castle Farm, St Georges Super Ely, Cardiff.

Morning all! A question for everyone but especially the teachers.

I'm looking for mnemonics and rhymes for learning fun facts. I only know two:

My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming Planets (solar system ordering)
    and
Killing Horses Dead Makes delicious cat's meat (metric system)

I know there are others, I seem to remember one for colours of the rainbow and another for Kings and Queens but haven't got a clue what they are. Just an idea I have for the library.

Well a local one for you Viva...

I put some water in Charlies hat (Ipswich), when I was young, it was the way we remembered how to spell it correctly.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
