Seriously dejunking the study today. Replacing the desk that was solid MDF and totally blocked the heat from the radiator behind it, with a swish glass number. So the heat can get into the room but no storage within.
What do you do with perfectly useable stuff that technology has bypassed? Seems a shame to dump, doubt there is an eBay market and I need the space.
And don't forget to choose one that does Gift Aid.0 -
silvercar: I'll take the tomtom off you?
We normally freecycle stuff and/or charity shop it. I offered a broken digital camera on freecycle and an electronics enthusiast picked it up.
You do have to sort the people out though, there is a woman in my area who seems to NEED EVERYTHING i am offering (and we have an eclectic mix of items!). Many many people are really nice, and thankful and happy.0 -
I've had long discussions with my dentist about veneers. Once you go down that road you are stuck with replacing them every 10 years or so. To get veneers to "stick" they shave the edge enamal off your tooth, so the integrity of your tooth is damaged. For ever. I'll get veneers when the technology has moved forward so that your own tooth remains undamaged -a bout 10-15 years time my dentist reckons.
That's so bizarre. I've had exactly the same conversation with mine. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Silvercar re the second hand cameras. I have an old Sony camera that is incredibly simple to use. When my mum wanted a camera we had to get her another one the same as it was about the only one she could master. Even second hand with the media cards it was £20. DH got it for me on ebay so if it is a reasonable one don't rule that out. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I've got Wartime London with Harry Harris on TV at the moment (Discovery History). It is about Nazi London this week.
It showed the German embassy prior to war broke out (now the Royal Society building). Even though it overlooked the palace, there are photos that exist of the terrace with people doing nazi salutes. They then investigated the books of the secret club of Nazi sympathisers which was busted in 1940, which included something like 12 MPs.
Even though my Mum had to be dug out of the wreck of her house as a child following a doodlebug attack and my grandfather fought fires in Woolwich and nan worked at the arsenal, I never realised that there was still such a large stain of Nazism infecting the country at the time. It is quite a chilling programme, not enjoyable but worth catching if people are interested. Thank goodness "we" won the war. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? There used to be a very interesting series years ago on the BBC I think called something like "the Denazification of Germany" which was about exactly that- ie how the British sector was denazified( e.g you couldn't buy bread until your ration book was stamped on your way out of the cinemas where they showed the reality of the camps).
Never seen it repeated and there's a dearth of film from that postwar era- very much a TV/cinema dark age. Seems more relevant now we realise not every sector did denazify.
I get the impression the police and security services in the East went straight from being good" nazi cops to becoming "good" communist cops with the same habits of surveillance, arrests, detention and torture without any intervening period of democratic accountability. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Glorious day here today. 30C and sunny. I went out canoeing on the harbor and then took the kids to the beach (Manly for those that know Sydney at all).
Mrs Generali quite likes the snow. I can't stand the bloody stuff myself.0 -
Talking about obsolete technology, middle son was introduced to a Sony Walkman cassette player yesterday after youngest found an old Guns and Roses cassette....middle son pronounced it awesome, cool and sick and now wants more cassette tapes to play in it.
Even after all this time, the music quality was just as good as a CD, if not better (according to middle son).
Have woken this morning to a heavy blanket of snow and the noise of the younger children around us making snowmen and having snow ball fights...my boys are quite happy inside at the moment, the first snow they have not got excited about, they are growing upWe made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I've discovered 3 old digital cameras, a Sony Walkman that took little discs, an old tomtom that works.

If you can be bothered I'd try ebay or freecycle then maybe a charity shop.
I stand by my claim that a lot of obsolete technology isn't obsolete at all but is perfectly good and somebody can get some use of it, especially in these budget-squeezed times.
Drove past some trams in Croydon the other day and marvelled we were ever so short-sighted to scrap all those tram systems after the war.
Saw a documentary about Detroit demolishing perfectly good homes currently surplus to market needs to drive values up. I could weep! It seems one step away from scrapping new cars when the ashtrays get full!:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I free cycle as much as possible. I am sure some of them take it to car boots or ebay so i try not to offer to the first people to contact in the hope someone who needs it gets it.
We have disposed of all sorts this way - redundant technology, bikes, trailer, chicken house, caravan steps, American fridge, desk and office furniture, soft furnishing. Saves a trip to the dump and as I am useless at ebay selling (only did it a couple of times and 'lost' money on it as I underestimated postage big time.0
