Channel 4, just started: The Hotel. It's a hotel in Torquay. Hilarious ... a real basil fawlty style owner!

After that, The Time Traveller's Wife, film.... sounds interesting. No more flicking round the channels for me tonight!
I'm hoping to stay awake long enough to watch the time travellers eife too pn. I wonder how much like the bo it is. I can barely remember the book. Bt i am tired and its dh's first day at new place tomorrow, so not sure if we will stay up.

Edit: not autocorrect, just tiredness. Sorry

The book was one of the best I've read. The film didn't live up to it.

I can't read, so haven't read the book. Looking forward to the film though ... hope it doesn't get complex as I can't watch many films because I miss stuff like body language and 'clues' ... and if there are two people that look similar I've no idea who is who any more.

Most films have to be explained to me, to be honest.

I've noticed in recent years that it's harder and harder to understand what people are saying. When the loudness/accents change I miss what's said. e.g. if somebody whispers something to somebody and walks off, I often don't get what they said.

This hotel programmes full of amusing squabbles, poor staff, poor management, poor conditions ... and is complete chaos. Love it.... reminds me of some of the places I've worked.

Pn, what makes a tv show easier to cmprehend than a film?

I just find it hard to consentrate on a film unless it really grips me these days, not a problem i usually have with a book. I also find volume difficult. Because of the tgn i find very load things pain ful. I also find a difficulty these days with v. Loud music, not being able to hear quiet speaking ove rit. :(

The most difficult thing though is the change in volume they deny exists between ads and the programme. And often between scenes. It makes book infinitely more pleasurable often as not.

Partly duration and partly needing to actually listen/take it in.

I am not sure what you mean by a TV show though .... what you'd think of when you say that... I tend to watch 'rubbish', e.g. property programmes, cookery programmes, stuff that needs a short attention span and I can pick up the thread of if I miss a chunk. Although if I miss the first 2-3 minutes of a lot of programmes I can never catch up. So many things have something happen in the first 2-3 minutes that set the scene for the rest... if I miss that I'm b***ered.

I have teletext on a lot of the time, to cope with changes in accents/speech volume.

TTW. I can't understand what they're saying. Too much other noise in these opening shots... and I have to keep turning it down when they bl00dy sing

OK ... lost. Now I have absolutely NO idea what's going on. And it's 1 minute into the film.
