Oh, and our loo has frozen. Not the water in the bowl, but somewhere along the pipe....worryingly as that is the closest to underground. It gave me a verynasty surpise when i flushed the loo. :(. No way of heating the outside loo!
An old fashioned paraffin heater would do the trick... of course you don't actually have one.

They were dangerous things to have around the house, but we had one in the 1960s in case the fire wasn't lit/or we'd run out of coal/wood/whatever.

You can still buy them (I just Googled and was surprised!).... if you fancy making a trip out to a diy/hardware type of store.... or even an Argos.

They tend to be called "greenhouse heaters" these days.

Just catching up, it's lovely to read everyone's news/banter and how you all help and encourage one another.
OH watching rugby atm, 6 Nations and waiting for the England v Scotland match complaining of cold feet, still at least he's not outside in the cold; don't think he would cope.
Anyone had any significant snow yet? I'm in south east and it's cold outside by our standards.
Made a vegetable and lentil soup in the slow cooker yesterday and added chicken today, delicious and very warming. Forgot to add mushrooms. :(

No room in there for anything to be put in there you see. Its about the size of a public loo cubicle.

Glad you feel comfortable here :). Soup sounds yummy. I forgot to get anything out of the freezer, so its the stew we had yesterday again to day. Just as well it is delicious. I might make a pudding though, Maybe clafoutis....we have bottled cherries.

We have snow, but its just a thick dusting atm. Falling fine but steadily. The yard is coverd.

Sigh, in a minute when we have thawed we will go and spread grit over the top half of the yard for the horses to be safe.

Ahh no wonder your posts' sound idyllic, although I expect it's not always like that. Me and OH would love to retire (a few years yet we have 2 DS at Uni and a DD doing A levels but we were late starters) somewhere with some space around us preferably near the sea.

Yard gritted, and the first egg from the rescues......watch out purebreds!

On the way back i was saying to dh that the rescues are certainly the economic way to do it, just like having pedigree dogs is more expensive than having a gorgeous little no paper mutt. But i like my breeds. I canot i agine giving up my breeding either.

My hens, the peacocks and the geese have all gone to sleep but the rescues are under the light and eating like pigs. They will have been well fed, becauae food means produce, but they probably are not in tune with their natural diurnal rhythm. After a lot of indecision we gave them a white lamp, not a red one. My hens will ignore it, but it might make things easier for the new girls to see where they are going and to acclimatise without the others in their little faces.
