I think dh has had a deep fried mars bar...conversation a while back.
Re cold...viva, for us its pretty much self inflicted so not too much sorrow for us.
Waking u to the icey windows with gold sun light is too beautiful to miss. I like ice inside window. It sort of solidifies the feeling along with the water, and also, its beautiful. To get to see something so glorious in your own home is truely miraculous. Unmissable. Worth short term doscomfort for such a thing. To have a heart that felt otherwise would be, imo, a sadness.....warmth is nice, but such beauty....something far greater!0 -

Crikey, how long does that last? These things are so expensive. Good luck Pastures. You are doing an amazing job. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We are getting some rescue hens arriving today infact pn. We have signed up for minimum of eight. I haven't had ex batts since i was a kid, and i know then it was. Big disaster....
They just didn't adapt well to sudden freedom and went a bit doolally, ran out into roads, under ponies feet etc. although i know more this time, it will be intersting to see how different it is!
Ours will have a lamp rather than jackets!0 -

I'm 100% with Pastures on this one.
When I moved back to the UK (in the middle of winter) we moved in with my grandparents who lived in a big Victorian house. No heating upstairs and this was a regular occurrence at a time my blood was thin and I really felt the cold. A few years later we moved back to the same house and it still didn't have heating. I can remember having a net curtain in the window and you used to be able to pull it off the window and it would make an exact imprint in ice.
I don't like the cold very much so am much happier in a warm house. I've also got to the point where my joints ache terribly if they get cold. Not looking forward to living with that one as I get older. May have to keep a smaller place here and buy a pied a terre somewhere warmer - though looking at pics this morning of the Roman Forum and the Riviera covered in snow I'm not sure where that will be:eek:Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I think the thing is that its special now because its not a common occurance you see.
Also a huge difference in being an adult, and with some choice over the situation...e.g. We bought a wreck, and are adults.
I too remember cold winters with ice inside windows, when in uk, and somewhere else, and my mother used to make it a game of who could get out of bed quickest and dressed on a count of three.
Heat is only a luxury when you remember the alternative.. I think too few people get to experience the alternative without throwing toys out of the pram.
Tbh, i'm pretty proud of how well i am coping....underaxtive thyroid means i run colder than average anyway, and i am just taking the view i would!'t be that warm with heating on if it were a background comfort always with me.
Anyhow, just lit the woodburner....looking forward to some warmth this afternoon. Tomorrow an mse chum is visiting too, so will light the woodburner earlier in the day. One warm room does make a hell of a difference.:D0 -
Article in today's Times for PN. The average singleton's living costs are 5,000 more than if they were part of a couple. We had loft insulation installed 2 winters ago. It doesn't make the house heat up any quicker but it keeps the heat in longer. Considering the previous owners had old loft insulation and single glazing, we've made big improvements, though the solid walls mean no cavity wall insulation so it's not that warm a house.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
