Says will except online statements if have logo and bank account number on

Do I have this correct, you just need to have opened and made the deposit by the 31st Jan, not sent statements or verified address?

I think you can also send a blank cheque with cancelled written accross it.
  • The deal is being pulled at 3pm today! You can transfer money by phone before then.

  • Does this mean everyone who applied and transferred before the deal was pulled will get a kindle?

  • I am absoltuely FUMING!

Saw Martin's deal, wanted an ISA so went ahead at lunchtime today. I went on the website, saw the advert for the Kindle offer, clicked the link, clicked 'apply online' entered all my details and then it claimed it couldn't verify my identiy, so I rang up and the guy said it was probably as I've moved within 18 months I'd need to do a paper version blah blah, I said I really only wanted the Kindle offer and he said it could be done in time before the 31st, if tight.

I then told my parents who went ahead and got one each, they 'applied online', had no problem with verification (lived in same house for 40 years!) but then it asked them to print off forms, send in bank statements etc. even though they'd entered in their bank account details already and just wanted an instant 'online' account to transfer the money into. They got no 'welcome' email to say their registration was recieved, nada. They rang up to find out why all the paper and were told the offer had CLOSED five minutes before.

    Wha?

It still says '31st Jan' on their website, it does not say 'while stocks last' or 'subject to demand' even though no doubt in the small print they're allowed. Their website application made NO sense and did not do what it claimed it was for, which was to apply online for an ISA. It should have been a quick, instant procedure and instead we've all wasted half a day on this, printer ink and phone calls only to have the deal closed. Plus, an hour earlier the customer service did not say the offer was closing in an hour anyway!

I will never, ever deal with this company again. ARRRRRRRRGHGHGHGH!
  • May I ask how you know this? The deal is still showing on SelfTrade's website:

    http://www.selftrade.co.uk/services/personal-dealing/cash-isa.php?

I opened an account at 15:20 and made payment online by Visa Debit for £5000 which has been credited to my account. Then I read your post.

  • Three different customer service people told me as we rang x3 times over this trying to get satisfaction - they refused to budge, said offer closed at 3pm end of story.

  • This is a complete joke. I started the application procedure after 3pm and it was still showing the Kindle offer.
  • We threatened them with Trading Standards we were so cross, no doubt in small print they can do whatever the heck they want, but fact is they were and STILL ARE advertising this offer as closing on Jan 31st - not 'subject to demand' or 'first come, first serve' but as a real offer with a set date to apply by. Their website and 'verification procedure' (the guy said it was from Exiron or something?) is clearly not up to the job and without properly explaining it, made us pring off paper and scrap about for bank statements etc.

If they are advertising a free kindle, they should honour that and have been prepared for the influx of new clients!

A total joke. We were prepared to invest thousands in them, and for the sake of a £89 kindle they've well and truly !!!!ed us off.
  • I think Martin himself should get involved in complaining. Most of us learnt of the deal from the MSE weekly email.
