I've just been talking to my Postie.

I asked him what he does when he gets a neighbour to sign for a recorded delivery, he showed me his book, he puts the house number in brackets at the side of the signature who has signed for the letter.

which is against RM delivery policy

I was talking about the letters division.

    What profits?

According to the bbc news website, the operating losses for the letters and parcel division were £41m.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/business-15820647

that now, after the market has been opened
what about when the government wasnt even paying into the pension
    where was the investment?
I didnt realise IT and infrastructure didnt include letters?

Yes there are lots of things that can happen i agree with you

The point im trying to make is do the postman HAVE to let the people whose recorded delivery it is know where it is ..... posting a card through their door as it is the postmans responsibility to get that recorded delivery from A to B

There must be rules you have to follow as a postman

yes but there isnt a set plicy that covers the whole UK.
perhaps if you actually read what I post instead of getting stroppy by PM
so if your area is under leave with neighbour its a different set up to an area that isnt
some have different set ups due to offcie/post office arangements/availability
have you never taken items before for your neighbour in 19 years?

No I asked you not to PM and I will reply to your thread as I see fit.
I have one working hand just now and dealing with your thread and constant PM notifications is a bit much.
helping and being at someones beck and call are not the same thing

so you have been perfectly happy with this and never queried it
now you want to know the rules and regs

Of course she does - she's £180 down.

It's not rocket science, even for an ex-postie.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

It makes perfect common sense to pop the house number at the side of the signature of the person who has signed it, a record has been made which address it has been delivered too, you say RM delivers to addresses not people, how do RM mail know which address it has been delivered to if the homeowner is not in and it has been left with a neighbour. (remember the neighbour is an address not a person).

The RM have a delivery policy? I wonder if the OP postie knows this? the small detail of a card not being left, or is this not in the delivery policy.

well who is to say the postie didnt leave a card(given they state they have always been one left before) but it got missed/lost ;)
    see we can all speculate
however writing addresses or part addresses on cards is not permitted as theses cards are scanned and uploaded to the net
