Hours are 8am-8pm and sat9-5, however, it depends on business needs, for pa roles it's usually 830-5:00, overtime available deepening on Business needs and u can opt, while on job , flexi hours are available but seldom for pa, you can work extra a can build a day off here n there, this is what I was told by an existing pa. hth

I've just spoken to the lovely man who had called me with the firm offer, and asked him what my hours will be as a PA. He said that PAs tend to work 9-5 Monday-Friday. The job centre that I will be working in isn't actually open to the public on a Saturday, but there may be the occasional overtime offered.

I am now starting to get really excited about the new role!!

Just checked my latest position on the reserve list, and I have shot up 30 places for the NW! May be in with a chance after all!

Sorry to be the one to say it, but there is no automatic progression within pay bands in the Civil Service. To qualify for a rise you must be rated as 'wholly exceptional' in your annual appraisal. In most areas managers never rate anyone as 'wholly exceptional'.:(

This has been an issue for some years. As has been the continuing dispute over pensions. I strongly suggest that everyone joining the DWP in this recruitment seeks out the PCS and joins asap!

This policy applies to DWP, each Dept has its own pay negotiations and some do have band progression as well as inflationary rises, well obviously at the moment circumstances are different.

There is a 1% cap on payrises for the next two years in DWP, the pay freeze has ended officially but it has yet to be decided how they will apportion that 1% of the payroll budget which means some may get more and some nothing.

The hours quoted by Radiofree related to those that will be listed in your contract as the hours between which you may be required to work, this is so that if sometime in the future you are transferred to a Contact Centre then they can change your working hours to suit themselves, including Saturdays with no extra pay (day off during the week).

This type of contract has only been issued to those joining the DWP in the last couple of years.

Xutl, do you know what dpmnt in Newport you'll be in? That's 3 of us from here that will be there, plus 3 colleagues from my old job centre. Make sure you seek us out and say hi. I'm on 25+.

As far as annual leave goes (sorry can't remember who first asked the question) mayeb it's done differently in different districts, but when I worked at JCP in 2009-11, it was done by start date, that wasn't changed in year 2 or anything. I was told that it used to be birthday month a few years previously but it changed to start date. In my new office, she also confirmed that it runs from your start date, and the birthday month date isn't used anymore. Like I said though, maybe it's different for different regions.
