Seems an awful lot of applications to get through, we may have a long wait.
Btw if you are interested in part time, when does that get raised? Does anyone know if Dwp offer term time only contracts?
    Many thanks

They do not offer term time only contracts but they do offer part time contracts.

There are staff that work term - time but its not broadcast much and never mentioned in recruitments. If you get an interview I wouldnt mention it then either. My advice would be get your foot in the door and once you have a feel for your line manager ask then. It hasnt been stopped just discouraged.

    Working Patterns

We offer a variety of working patterns including full time, part time and part-year working, depending on business needs. These options are designed to help you achieve a strong work–life balance. We recognise that work–life balance is no longer just about being “Family Friendly” but is about offering a range of options for all staff.
You will receive information about the working patterns that apply to the specific post you are applying for. These arrangements may be agreed before you start work. They must be agreed with you within the first 3 days of starting work. :T

66,000 people applied to work for the DWP yet:

    1) The goverment blame the people for being jobless, and that a life on benefits is not acceptable.

    2) They blame the british people for being lazy and not competitive in salary and hours as immigrants.

    3) They force people to onto below minimum wage work trials and apprenticeships, knowing well that it is very unlikey of anything to come of it.

    4) Sanctioning people is in fashion, I got a sanction because I was over 5 minutes late once, I appealed and won but housing benefit was delayed by 2 months!

*SIGH* anything I say from this point of forward would be too negative, evil, terrorising. :rotfl:

Totally agree. And as long as we have the minority (public school boys) ruling the majority - with no real idea of the real world - nothing will change.
I sometimes believe they want us back to the workhouse days :(

But yes, even taking into account duplicate applications etc, over 50,000 applications for this recruitment drive shows a real snapshot of the state the country is in at the moment.
And I know for a lot of people the salary isn't that good, but for me it would be life changing.
I worked as an AO on a FTA contract in 09/10 and was so chuffed when I got the job, because I hoped it was the start of a real career.
And there are some good people working in the DWP as well as the idiots/bullies (and I came across quite a few) so I'm still hopeful this time around - and the fact they are permanent posts is good.

    Fingers crossed everyone!
When you're going through hell, keep going...

Actually, 50,000 applicants for what was widely reported as 4,000 jobs (although in fact it seems to be more like 1200 for external applicants) doesn't seem like a huge ratio, 12:1, in comparison to other stories about 23 applicants per vacancy, which itself seems from my experience to be pretty low.

Im guessing that statistic is from here:

    [Can't link]

"23 applicants for every job vacancy...
and there are 46 for each customer service role
45 applicants for every secretarial position"

And I remember this article saying it may even go up to the 70 figures later:

"Graduates warned of record 70 applicants for every job"

    [Can't link]

You think 23 applicants is low? Considering if you were all equal in application, you have 4.32% chance to get the job.

Anyway the world is a mess right now, If anything should be capped it should be how much each family should be able to breed, 1 kid per household, similar to China. Which will never happen as some people don't want to sacrifice a little bit of freedom for a better future.

I have gone way off topic with this so I will stop now :silenced:

I'm not disagreeing with you but I think there is a time and a place for such discussion and perhaps here isn't the best place for it. It does make me question a world where a woman with 5 children gets £26,000 pa in benefits whereas someone with a PhD struggles to get a job that earns minimum wage. Something definitely has to be done but I don't think anyone on this board has the power to change things to a significant extent and I for one am tired of wasting my energy being annoyed at the system. Anyway, a time and a place...

I'd be interested to hear what everyone else's situation is: what do you intend to do if you don't get this job? What are your future plans? I naively graduated from university with three degrees thinking employers would eat me up. Clearly, that hasn't happened and I am slightly concerned about what my future might hold if I don't manage to secure a decent job soon...

    Well said goldilocks...

In terms of myself I graduated in July and was working on a contract basis for 6 months..... During that time Ive applied to a lot of graduate schemes and have come to realise that sometimes such schemes are aimed at the "elite" few although I went to a respected business school as they said.

BT have opened a call centre in my area 17k (22k after 1 year i think) and that's another route Im exploring with the hope of maybe working up to a managerial role in 3/4 years (31k)

I was thinking maybe insurance work in claims handling or something along those line again with the hope of building a career in insurance.

Problem is I geographically immobile and I can't be really spending 6k of my salary living away, trains, washing, food etc... Ideally I would want to save a lot of money and buy property .... Easily said than done!

Yeah I know... That's why I said I was going off topic and kept it short. It was just me venting, I am also tired with the system, but if people don't care to change it then it wont.
