I recently called the recruitment line to sort something out and the very friendly guy I spoke to gave me some additional info when asked.
There were approximately 60000 applications on a national level and he said they will have to go through all of them. In that case I’m not sure where the Situation Test comes in or if it matters so much. He also told me that in all fairness it will take 2-3 weeks (from today!) to get an answer as all the applications are reviewed by a handful of people in Newcastle.

That's definitely going to be the longest period of time I've had to wait to see whether I've secured an interview. I will be quite deflated if I wait for approximately a month to get rejected.

I can beat that - applied for a job in September last year... had a call about interview January this year (NHS)....

That is long. Don't they expect the applicants to have looked for other posts (and secured some) during that time?

    Le mind boggles. :D
  • 60000 is alot but don't forget that there are alot of people who have applied for more than one area so the figure could be considerably less in real terms.
I live near Norwich so have only applied for this area...is there anyone else on this forum who has applied for the East?

This is how it usually goes with DWP because of the high number of applications and cost cuts.
I applied with them once before in September 2009 and I heard back from them 4 weeks later. Furthermore the whole process took 4 months and I only started my FTA in January 2010.

Knowing me, I'll probably get on "the list" if I'm successful. And then they'll take me off the list, because I'll keep calling them to ask where I am on the list... :D

It's an employer's market anyway in these economic conditions, so I don't anticipate being deluged with better prospects in the next few months.
  • just found out today that overtime has been approved for the bham and solihull district so they can sift through the applications

NO idea but they were very insistent ... did not go for interview as location of the actual job has changed in the meantime and was not suitable.

Is the number of applications higher in those districts? That's where I've applied. Hopefully, that means those of us applying for those areas will hear shortly(ish).
  • Just for info - feedback has started to go on the applications online from the sift. It still says applications on hold but click on feedback for scores. I believe they are scored out of 9

I applied in one of the EO districts and have been told they had approx 10,000 applications, test pass will rise so only 2000 will go through to sifting (which suggests 80% percentile). Of this 1000 will be selected for interview.

So 20 interviews for each advertised vacancy. Although have heard they planned to recruit more than the advertised 50.

10,000 of a total of 60,000 this is a lot considering the number of districts

Is it London by any chance?
