Thanks for this, Fairycakes. Clears things up a little. If JXB05 is also North West and hasn't received this form either then it points to a problem at their end rather than mine! I find it doubtful that I would have 'missed' it in my inbox. Still worth phoning up/sending an email tomorrow though...

Bear in mind that the submission deadline has passed, but if they didn't send you the form on time they can hardly complain if you submit it late.

agrinnall, thats very interesting. I didnt bother with this excercise because from what I could see the original specification didnt state anything on the Fylde coast, Preson or Lancaster. The Cumbria and Lancashire document above though seems to include all those locations. I'm gonna be really peed off if there are vacancies in this area.

I was a former HEO in the CS who got outsourced years ago and hated it so took VR. About 18 months ago I passed the on-line AO/EO tests, and the HEO/SEO critical literacy and numeracy at a local hotel, only to have the rug pulled from under my feet at the last minute when all recruitment was pulled.

Were there any vacanies in Lancaster/Preston/Fylde?

The thing I don't understand is why have people done "different" applications for different areas.... 2 sets of competencies, 2 sets of tests when all you have to do is the one application and just submit them working forms in relation to the area you wish to apply for?

Not in the North West one (these are my preferences too). However, there was a separate one (incl a different ref. code) that was for Fylde/Blackpool/Preston. Unfortunately as a non-civil servant I could not find it on the website - but I was told by ppl working for the DWP that it was there (must only be for internal candidates???).

agrinnall - you are a godsend.

ETA: After looking at the forms it's the "Greater Manchester and Cheshire" one I applied for (I don't think "Cumbria and Lancs" - my preference - was advertised externally).

I was also informed by an AO in JCP that this geographical area was internal only.

I'm in Lancashire and was told by my Jobcentre adviser that the EO roles in this area were for promotions only. I've applied to the next two closest areas, both involving at least a 45 minute commute but I'd naturally rather work closer to home. Even allowing for the travelling costs, it's still better than JSA!

I'm not sure that would get you considered for 2 areas.

I applied to 2 areas and, in the 'Review Applications' when I log in, it shows 2 separate applications. Would it do that with just sending 2 working locations forms? And how would you know unless you'd been through the process previously? I wouldn't have wanted to take the risk.

I know other people have had different experiences but it was no hassle to do 2 applications. Your personal details are saved, I copied-and-pasted the competencies (saved in Word) and I only sat the test once. The 'extra' application literally took a couple of minutes.

That would be the 'ideal' way to do it but that was not how this exercise was set up - you had to submit an application for each area you wanted to be considered for. No need to 're-do' competencies as if you had any sense you would have done them in a word document and then cut and paste them into your application. Some people (like me) had to do more than one test but that was because of the order in which I submitted my applications. If I had done the test after the first application was submitted then my result from that would have been applied to my remaining applications when they were submitted. As I chose to make a second application before taking the test I had to do the test again. (That is a bug in their system - it should be easy to link the test back to existing applications but that is another matter).

It was only after these two steps had been done that you were sent the working locations form in an e-mail - it should have just been the location specified in your application - if you made two applications you should have gotten 2 e-mails with the link to the specific areas you applied for. Unfortunately due to the sheer volume of applications this system didn't work as well as expected and some of us subsequently recieved an e-mail all the links to all the areas - which as I made a 3rd applcation I used to submit the working locations form for that area - and my test result from my first test taken was then applied to this 3rd application.

Really not a great system but the one we have had to work with as part of this process.
