Yes London weighting exists in the Civil Service, not sure on figures though

Surely though a job is better than being on the dole , or am I missing something?

My cousins son, who is in London applied as the salary shown was considerably higher than he currently gets.

Starting salary is around half of my previous salary so I am not overexcited about the prospect to be honest.
And it is negotiable re better or not than on JSA - depending on one's expenses connected with being at work.
Not sure how old your cousin's son is/what kind of experience/qualifications has he got and what his circumstances are but please remember we all have different financial commitments and one can not compare to another.
Well, will see how it all turns out.
